 Monday: zucchini, movies in the park and hops at 9:01 AM
Today is Monday and i am feeling pretty positive. I have been having a tough time finding a job so i have decided to take charge and do something about it. When the going gets tough, the tough get creative. I am excited about all the things i now feel capable of doing and hopefully this will turn everything around. WooHoo for believing in myself! Yesturday i biked the river parkway until we found a nice play spot and then jumped in the river. I am so glad the river is finally low enough to wade in, it was cold as hoth but well worth the dip. I want to encourage everyone to hop on their bike and check out the river parkway, it is so amazing right now. But be safe, the river is still unpredictable. In other news i have officially decided to give myself a little break from indie Ogden. Working 6 hours a day on a blog 6 days a week (last month i finally gave myself Sundays off) while being a stay at home mom is a bit draining. Don't worry, this blog isn't going anywhere but it IS getting BIGGER! I launched a search and found 4 amazing people to join the indie Ogden team and i am excited to meet with them and see what happens. I am one step closer to achieving my goal of making Indie Ogden into a local magazine! I have a vision and i have the drive ( thanks to coffee) and i am determined to make this happen. I want to give a hearty thank you to everyone who encouraged me to keep going, all the local businesses who have supported me and to Ogden for being so awesome. Oh! one last thing! Ogden Utah has its very own Indie film theater!!! Go check out Art house 502 and see a rad movie! no longer will you have to travel to slc, support local. And here are your days events! All day

saturday- where did spring go? at 10:13 AM Saying that i was disappointed when i woke up this morning to find that the blue skies were gone is an understatement. Thursday- donuts in the sun. at 2:08 PM This Thursday is like no other its going to be amazing! The sky is clear, the sun is shining, I'm wearing my my Diane Von Ferstenberg score from urban chic and eating donuts (from toppers) in the park. Life really couldn't get any better, OK if i a computer of my own stumbled into my lap i think it could improve my day just a little. Today i biked over to the hubby's work to hijack his computer and let the bean tour his job. she has been begging me to take her and its finally warm enough to let her visit this frigging warehouse. She loved bikes and hearing her squeal with joy and she enters a building filled with nothing but bike parts is priceless. oh the wonders of being three. It's good to be back at 10:21 AMSpring is upon us (I hope) and soon we will be content with just laying in the sun. I don't know about you but when it's gloomy out I need to keep busy. Toxic environments like these contribute to a lower life expectancy and lower quality of life. Thursday, one day closer to spring at 11:57 AMI can not wait for winter to be over with, no more colds, no more bulky sweaters HELLO sandals and sundresses! I think the novelty of wearing leggings and high socks has worn off and my legs are starting to look a bit florescent. Were thinking an April spring show and we need some volunteers. I cry for Ogden at 9:49 AMLast night i cried for Ogden. The mayor of Ogden vetoed an anti-discrimination bill on the grounds that it violated religious freedom. Well, i am here to say that discrimination violates our human rights, our rights to love and our rights to freedom of expression. No one should ever be turned away from a job, a place to live or any basic human rights because of their sexual orientation. If something like this is allowed to happen what's next? Ogden is the first city in Utah to fail to pass these ordinances, falling far behind the 11 other cities/municipalities which have already passed these protections. The FBI Analyzed 14 years of hate crime data and found that gays and lesbians are more than twice as likely to be attacked in a violent hate crime as Jews or blacks; more than four times as likely as Muslims; and 14 times as likely as Latinos. Furthermore, hate crimes against gay people increase in the wake of anti-gay legislation and the FBI has found an increase in hate crimes in Utah. Recently young boys and girls who were bullied because of their sexual orientation have committed suicide all over the nation. I hope that we can all agree that when anyone is attacked, demonized or discriminated against it damages our hope for the a peaceful future. Mayor Godfrey says “This is a colossal waste of our time,”. Well, i beg to differ and i hope you do to because protecting Ogden's citizens from discrimination should never be a waste of time . In this day in age we should be striving to be a more accepting, generous and loving society and this bill is only going to set us back. Freedom of religion should NEVER mean freedom to discriminate. But hope is not lost there is still a little time to sway the decisions of Brandon Stephenson, Doug Stephens and Neil Garner. Call and email these men and tell them why discrimination is never okay. I love your blog. There should be one small clarification- the mayor did not veto the two ordinances regarding discrimination in housing and employment based upon sexual orientation or gender identity. He indicated he would, before the Ogden City Council even had a chance to discuss them- but we DID pass them by a 4-3 vote. Once they land on his desk in a number of days he can choose to sign them or veto them as he has vowed to do. It would them be up to the Council to muster five votes to over ride his veto.

Indie Ogden Utah's 100th post! at 10:42 AM Today is a glorious day. It is the 100Th post on the indie Ogden Utah blog! It's so incredible how far this blog has come since i started it. What began as a way to entertain myself while adjusting to a new town has become a gateway to incredible opportunities, wonderful friends and amazing adventures. I can not wait to see what the future has in store! Chuks vintage fashion show at 12:52 PMLast night was incredible! Thank goodness for the gentle encouragement of friends who helped it all happen because it was definitely a night i wont soon forget. Kamikazes bar hosted Chuks vintage clothing fashion show with Ulysses and the house was packed. The clothes were all vintage finds from Chuks vintage clothing owned by Carrie Gerber. Everything from 40's Hollywood beauty to 80's new wave glam graced the stage as the models stomped down the runway. I know i was chanting a little ' please don't fall' mantra in my head as i went on stage but luckily no one fell and we all had a blast. Ulysses gave an amazing performance as well, getting everyone on their feet and dancing. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. Have a good day folks! Friday - dancing, pirates and gardens at 10:42 AM Heck yeah! We have survived the week and it's almost time for the weekend. I am so stoked about what is happening that i can hardly contain myself. I get my package of new dresses from mod cloth today and i get to dance around downtown while Mike Brice films the indie Ogden promo video. This is going to be a great day! If you haven't RSVP-ed for the Indie Ogden promo shoot then go do it now! From 7-9pm we will be filming all the cool places downtown. Ive never don't this before and have no idea what i am doing so thankfully Mike Brice is helping out but be warned hilarious chaos will be involved. Thursday at 5:20 PM whew today was exhausting and fun. I got to play dress up at chuks and try on some outfits for the upcoming retro fashion show. Who knew trying on clothes could be such a work out. This event is going to be lots of fun so you simply must go! Plus there are some exciting Indie Ogden Utah collabs in the works. The clinic- part 1- JulieAnn Carter-Winward at 9:11 AM The car door closes behind her and without stopping, she walks to the sidewalk. The girl wears a gray hoodie jacket, lined with flannel. It's not a parka, but it's warm enough against the chill. Her hands delve deep into her pockets and strain the coat away from her body; her fists show through the cloth and extend forward as if they try to escape their owner. As she stands on the cement, she slides her hands out of their cocoons. Slowly, her elbows rise behind her so she can rest the palms of her hands on her lower back. For a moment her shoulders collapse, curving her back into a "C" shape; her black ponytail flops forward against her cheek and she grimaces in discomfort as her protruding belly seems to disappear behind her jacket. She straightens and watches the car expectantly. A young man emerges from the car and steps up to the curb. His feathery-thin mustache can be seen like a shadow, barely gracing his lip. Smoke balloons around his face like fogged glass as the tip of his cigarette brightens momentarily. I see black eyes flit toward me for brief moment. Untouched by anything he sees, he turns to face the girl. They stare at each other and she, too, glances my way. They could not see me; the sun barely scrapes the tops of the mountains and by her frown, I suspect that the new morning rays have just emerged over the snow-capped peaks. She raises a delicate hand to her brow to ward off the glimmering light. I see her lips move and he nods his head in assent. Her words are muted by my windshield, but her companion hears her; his face registers nothing but a void mien. With a flick of her wrist she flips her ponytail back in place. As she turns to face the blonde-brick strip mall facade, her gait is unsteady; her ample abdomen seems to reach forward and propel her toward the door. The young man waits as she reaches for the shiny gold knob. She holds the door open for a moment, her back to him. Eyes closed, he devours the smoke with collapsing cheeks; an intense draw that alights the end of the cigarette to a final blaze. With a furtive look around, he tosses the smoking butt to the sidewalk. It seems to take him an eternity to reach the door. His feet shuffle with small steps, as when a young boy's feet kicks up the sand on a beach. Unaware of his proximity, the girl lets the door close behind her. He stops and regards the closed door. He does not reach for the handle right away. Instead, he stops and surreptitiously glances about the sidewalk and parking lot once more. His face is passive, vacuous and resigned He reaches for the gold handle and walks through the door behind his companion. He enters the clinic, seemingly alone. saturday- contests and snow fights at 10:23 AM Igloos ruleYesterday was an incredibly frustrating day. i had to go back and change indie Ogden's links on everything I've ever been linked on. The cold doesn't even bother me today and I think i am finally starting to get used to this whole 'winter' thing. Hunter got to play with a new friend while i got to get my hair revamped and i finally got to try uncommon grounds. Their lattes are superb and the staff is great. They even have a gelato stand in there so i bought some acai berry flavor mmm. They play indie shows there too and they having one tonight so keep reading for the details. Yesterday was almost perfect except for one thing, UTA. After my sweetie got home i decided to walk over to the grocery store and buy some veggies and fruit. I figured I'd take the bus back since it would be too heavy to carry and because it was a Thursday the bus should run at an appropriate time right? wrong. Apparently the bus stops running really early because i got the stop at 7 and waited and waited and froze and waited. Nothing. I called the number at the stop only to find there is no automated system to tell you times the bus is running and apparently they were now closed. Now i don't know why Utah decided to run buses but in other cities it is to help people get around, reduce the environmental impact of cars and provide a valuable community resource. The buses run until 3am and there are 24 hour automated call center so you can find out when your bus is coming and if your in danger the bus is free. I think UTA really needs to think about revamping its whole system. Even during daylight (the only time it runs apparently) it's never on time and more than once the driver was either rude or disregarded my stop request and made me walk way out of my way. No one wants to ride a bus if its more of a hassle than any other means of transportation. OK end rant. UTA's service is operated on a schedule determined both by budgetary limitations and ridership. The agency is not a state funded program. About 71% of UTA's operational funds are generated from local option sales tax revenues, which vary year to year. When the economy is down and people are spending less on taxable items - new cars, clothes, toys, etc. - UTA's operational budget takes a hit. Right now, the agency is down over $40M from projected. These budgetary issues have required us to make cuts in service - both in the number of routes and the number of trips. Some of that service will likely be reinstated when the economy improves. UTA also make route determinations based on efficiency and ridership. If there aren't enough riders either in a particular area or at a certain time of day, it just doesn't make sense to operate the bus. It's unclear why you were unable to reach our automated telephone system. We do have a 24-hour customer service line that provides bus schedules (801-RIDEUTA, select option four). Live agents are available during peak hours 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Finally, should you have a poor encounter while riding the service, you're encouraged to contact our customer service department by phone or online to ensure that it doesn't happen again.
