 Zombie survival guide: Ogden edition Part2 at 7:58 PM
This week I figure I would stay with zombie related material, but go in a bit of a different direction. We are less than a month away from the Zombie Prom, and since I not only personally have a major interest in it, it’s in Ogden, and it for a wonderful reason.

Nowadays, he spends his time as an independent filmmaker, with the Faded Sky Entertainment production company, and an avid arts advocate. You can usually find Jeff under the pseudo moniker, “Sookie” at local bars singing karaoke with his friends, and a cold PBR, (you have probably never heard of it though). He enjoys his time with a really good book, horror films, indie music, pop music, corn dogs, coffee, beer, or trying to convince people that 28 Days Later is NOT a zombie film. surviving the zombie apocalypse in Ogden,UT at 10:44 PM
How much do you know about your hometown? How much do you know about the surroundings, the people, the places, the terrain? It’s a good chance that you don’t know anywhere near as much as you think. Think about Ogden. Think about the streets, the smells, the people...
Now...
Think about those streets overflowing with panic. Crazed people with firearms, crazed people looting, robbing, killing, assaulting, screaming, yelling...Not too exciting to think about right?
NOW...
Think about that exact template...with hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of zombies. That’s right, I said it. Zombies. How would you handle yourself? Are you prepared? Are you ready? Do you really think that you know where to go, how to get out, how to make your stand?
I’m going to go grab some Pop-Tarts, and eat real quick, while you let this sink in. Don’t worry, my children, I will return to you.
Mmmmmmmn, just what the doctor ordered...I apologize, where were we? OH YEAH! How to survive a zombie outbreak in the city of Ogden.
Over the next few weeks, IndieOgden will bring to you my personal quest to make sure that all of you faithful readers will be able to not only survive this impending apocalypse, but to hopefully educate you about some awesome things and places in the Ogden area that you had no idea even existed.
Over the next few weeks, I will explore, and scour the Ogden area to attempt to find some of the answers to these important topics...
1- I will go over the (hopefully obvious) places to NOT go to, and to stay away from in the initial panic. 2 - Stock up on supplies, and survival gear. 3 - Find weapons, and tools to aide in your survival. 4 - Find places IN the city that you should be made aware of, in case you can’t get out of the city right off the bat. 5 - Talk to other “zombie experts” in the area, to see if we can’t figure out a citywide exit strategy that we can call into effect, when this happens.
You cannot be ready for things that you do not prepare for folks. I don’t do this for myself. My survival pack is ready, and in a safe, accessible location. My machetes are sharpened, and ready. My exit strategy is set, and planned. I do this for you, the faithful readers. I have been tasked with helping you to survive, and I will do JUST that. As a member of the Faded Sky Entertainment team, (the foremost zombie experts in the area), in association with IndieOgden, I feel that this is something that ALL should be educated on. We love you all, and want you to feel safe.
Hopefully, after reading this series of articles, you will be able to liken yourselves to Forrest Gump, after investing in Apple, and speaking of money.
One less thing to worry about.
My goal is for the readers to be able to sleep well at night. Consider my words your proverbial glass of warm milk. Consider my expertise your proverbial...sword of Godric Gryffindor?

Back to the daily grind...of AWESOME! at 9:21 PM Well, the three day weekend is over and its time for us all to go back to the daily grind. Luckily Ogden is super awesome and there is always something fun to do to cheer ya up. I cant say that i got out much this weekend; the first part was spent taking care of my sick daughter and husband and the second part was spent being sick. However, it rained the ENTIRE weekend anyway so i wasn't missing much. Being sick may not have been so bad because i managed to make quite a few new friends and these friends are super awesome and will be featured on upcoming blog posts and giveaways! As you may have seen on indie Ogden's facebook one of those super awesome friends is a vinyl decal company (http://beepart.com/) that will be doing a giveaway soon. I don't usually host out of town giveaways but this company is fantastic. It is an artist owned and run company that gives other artists a platform for featuring their art in vinyl form! Other friends include local artists and crafters whose work i will be featuring during the Ogden arts festival and you can have a chance to win some of their fantastic work too. I even had a chance to write 2 new articles on sloucher so check it out! I will be getting the print edition in the mail soon and will try and get some of those out to you guys. Whew! i have had a super busy sick weekend! I should get sick more often. . . stay tuned for lots of amazing things happening! Grey Fiction: review by Chelsi Archibald at 1:47 PM Last night I had the privilege of attending a fundraising event with Chuks Vintage Clothing and Amir Jackson's amazing non-profit organization 'Nurture The Creative Mind'. Check both of them out, they are awesome. Located at Universe Gallery, this quaint little place right on Washington Blvd had a really laid back summer vibe thanks to the amazing band Grey Fiction. I'm not kidding when I say that they are one of the best local bands I've seen in awhile. They have an indie contemporary vibe and they describe themselves as "Painters of audible thoughts". This is no exaggeration. Lead singer Paul Muuse has real talent and it shows. His vocals are well balanced and his range is impressive. It's a voice that would sound nice in a recording studio or on stage, both crucial aspects of the music industry. On top of that, he adds in continuous guitar licks and keyboard styles that create a unique sound. Mark Muuse was enjoyable on the drums. His use of personal style in the middle of seemingly relaxed songs brought things in motion. And Matthew Muuse on bass was full of life and fun to watch. It's clear that all these guys are very talented gentlemen. If you haven't heard Grey Fiction play, you should make their next gig a major priority. Their next shows are at The Grove on May 30th and Kilby Court in Salt Lake City on May 31st. Wednesdays are magic in Ogden Utah!! at 10:29 AM AHH! today is the big day and i am so excited i may burst! Have you looked outside yes? It's amazing and i literally can NOT wait to get out in the sun and roll in the grass with my daughter hunter. I just have to wait for the very nice and very punctual (unlike the original guy) maintenance man to finish up fixing everything the original maintenance man did wrong ( if only i had time to list it all!) and we can head out! "Using artistic expression to learn, understand, grow, empower, and unite." OH yes! the big day! Tonight i will be modeling in the Fashion and music even to benefit "Nurture the creative mind ". If you haven't heard me swooning over this foundation let it be know that a program has never moved me quite like this one.Nurture the Creative Mind Foundation has teamed up with Chuk's vintage clothing to bring to you our 1st Annual Fashion & Music Show. Grey Fiction and Fox Van Cleef will be jammin' live, DJ/MC Liz "the Ladybug"Coleman from 90.9 KRCL will be playing some groovy tunes, Chuck's Clothing will be hosting a vintage clothing fashion show and if that wasn't enough there will be an OPEN BAR (until gone). tickets will be $6 in advance and $10 the day of the event .* All donations will go to fund the Nurture the Creative Mind Foundation and help provide guitars and lessons for the youth they serve. As stated on their facebook page "The nurture the Creative Mind Program (NCM) is a program that teaches students self confidence, self expression, as well as character development while cultivating creativity and learning. The NCM Foundation through its programs opens the minds of students to the many ways that poetry is used in their everyday life, while teaching them the educational benefits and structure of poetry. This expands their existing thoughts and beliefs which allows the students to become open-minded in others facets in education. Top 5 reasons to love Ogden Utah at 10:22 PM When i heard that the company my husband works for was expanding and wanted us to move to Ogden Utah my fist instinct was "heck no!' I lived in Portland Oregon mecca of all things cool and fun, but i still never felt at home. After much deliberation and some feelings of wanderlust we decided to take the plunge and try out a new town. Neither of us had ever heard of Ogden or even spent any time in Utah so everything was new and terrifying to us. I had a lot of fears moving here- who would i be friends with, what if everyone hates me, what if i hate everyone? Luckily within the first couple weeks it was clear we were going to be just fine. Everywhere i went people were so friendly and welcoming and made me feel right at home, soon i felt just like a regular and its been a crazy fun ride ever since. Voted one of the best places to live in America it is no wonder we fell in love So for all of those folks who are thinking of moving to Ogden here is my list ( in no particular order) of "My Top 5 Reason To Love Ogden Utah" 1-The music scene: Local musicians are dedicated and are good at what they do and with and eclectic blend of venues there is always something amazing going on. For such a small town there is no shortage of places to hear music: the basement, mojos, the bee, outlaw, city club, brewskis, kamikazes, teazers, wine cellar and the sandtrap have regular shows that are always a blast to watch plus most coffee shops offer regular music for free as well. With the recent launch of the Ogden Local music awareness coalition it is only getting better! Here are a some of my favorite bands/musicians for your listening pleasure: Mermaid baby, The R.u.g.s, mountain hymns, marny proudfit, beargrowl, wolfhowl and fire in the skies. 2- Community involvement: When someone is in need the community pulls together. Any given month you will hear about a benefit show, community clean up, charity event or a city project. People care about their community here and want to work together to make it better. There are a lot of volunteer programs if you are interested in getting involved in the community. Check out what these folks are doing for Ogden: Nurture the creative mind, junior league and hippie militia. 3-Lower cost of living: Ditching the city for small town living has been rewarding in a lot of ways but most of all its been good to our wallets. The cost of housing is a lot lower here in Ogden than other places and with beautiful historic homes why not ditch the city apartment for a small town house! Not only is housing cheaper but so are lots of other things: dining out, going to local music shows even groceries. When you live in a bigger city demand is higher and so are the prices. Ogden has a lot of discount and savings stores and local places offer a lot of great deals. Community spaces have really affordable rates and even schools have competitive prices. Its nice not having to shove your way through a crowd to enjoy a night out and with the money we save we can splurge on that fancy dessert! 4- local stores: People love to support local here and Local first Ogden has had great success in getting people really excited about enjoying what is here in Ogden. The great thing about shopping local is the personal touches: a shop owner remembering your name, the email when they find something that is SO you and knowing that you are supporting a neighbor with every purchase. Within the historic 25th street area alone there are so many amazing local shops to try out. Here are my favorite Local Ogden places: Urban chic, cherry blossoms, grounds for coffee, queen bee, vintage cupcakes, roosters and chuks vintage. 5- outdoor fun: Ogden is surrounded by mountains so it is no wonder that is is called a' playground for adrenaline junkies'. There are a ton of places to bike, hike, run, rock climb and play on the mountains and within biking/walking distance there are secret hot springs, rivers to swim/kayak and canoe in and lots of picnic spots. Ogden also has the best parks i have ever been to. With modern safe playgrounds and lush green fields, you just want to lounge in the sun all day long. Check out Weber pathways , Ogden parks, Ogden river parkway , Dinosaur park and the nature center for outdoor family fun ideas and if its raining check out salomon center and Treehouse museum. This weekend:belly dance, roller derby, farewells & fundraisers at 3:05 PM Well its official i am about to embark on my birthday weekend with a terrible head cold. Perhaps i was born with a birthday curse, perhaps i crossed a wicked soul who placed one upon me; however i ended up with a long streak of the birthday blues is a mystery to me. Regardless of my being sick, the world goes on and so does Ogden,Utah. This weekend may be one of the most fun weekends ever and everyone better go out and get crazy in my honor!
