Super awesome buy local giveaway! at 11:00 AM

It's here folks the super awesome buy local giveaway! yay! I've been so excited about this lately and could hardly wait to unveil the awesomeness! Be sure to invite tell your friends about this giveaway so they can enter too! There are lots of ways to enter so listen up-
You can get one entry for following us on our blog, facebook and twitter
You can get one entry for every one of the sponsors that you like/follow - Rovalis, sock monkeyn around, Allison Compton, cherry blossoms and grounds for coffee
and you can get one entry for re-posting about Indie Ogden on twitter or facebook!
None of your entries are valid unless you post on indie Ogden's facebook and tell me which ones you've done.
OK on to the good stuff there are 2 grand prizes and 5 smaller awesome prizes too!

The first grand prize package is a whole new look by Alison Compton- A gift certificate for a basic Color service, women's haircut, eyebrow wax, and color sealing deep conditioner. Also Alison has been working with a product line called Unite, and whoever wins will get a couple of her favorite products from the line. Total value of this package is over $165.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Alison has have been a Utah Cosmetologist since December of 2003, but her love for styling hair started when she was just a little girl. Every doll and every Barbie she owned was given a haircut, and as she grew she would practice styling on my cousin and all of her friends. So much, that they often got very bored with her always wanting to play with their hair! Color is definitely her most favorite service because it provides instant change in a subtle way, or as dramatic as you'd like. Big changes can happen with color in just 35 minutes! Her strength behind the chair would have to be communication and having the ability to gain a feel for what people are really asking for. This approach helps her to be able to guarantee all services she provides. Shes love styling hair at Salon Nouveau on Historic 25
Th Street in Ogden, because of the sense of community the salon and the whole street has to offer. Everyone supports each others businesses, and the girls at the salon have become her second family. Her major goal for 2011, would be to continue her education with the art of hairstyling.

Second grand prize is a Photo shoot of your choice by Rachael of fotograffiti. Use this prize to take family portraits, engagement photos, children's portraits or anything else you can think of. package values at over $75.00
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rachael Blackman collins is a mother of our boys, a photographer and organizer of the Starr foundation. The Starr foundation is an amazing program where Rachael goes to nursing homes and hospitals and takes fun photo shoots free of charge. She also provides entertainment and soon she'd like to add an "adopt a grandparent" option! Sponsorship can be in the form of monetary funding OR volunteering to come and play games/talk/spend time with their resident. She is always on the lookout or volunteers and sponsorships so if your interested email her at lifeasrach@gmail.com.

Next up are 5 smaller prizes for some lucky readers-
Two people will win a $20 gift certificate to grounds for coffee!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Grounds for coffee is such a cute cafe. Their Historic 25Th location has a yoga studio inside and comfy chairs and their Harrison location has amble space and a kids area. The
baristas are quite knowledgeable and when i ordered something that wasn't on the menu the barista made it with enthusiasm and to perfection. on their website it says- We know your choices for coffee are vast. At Grounds for Coffee, our goal is simple; to bring you the freshest coffee possible, in a timely and convenient manner, at competitive prices, with an emphasis on customer service and support. We've been providing this to our local customers in Utah since 1991.

One person will win a sock monkey from sock monkeyn around!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

and last but certainly not least...
One person will win a gift certificate to Rovalis!
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Rovali's Ristorante Italiano is a family owned and operated restaurant established in December 2006. Located on historic 25Th, it was the very first place i went out to eat at when i moved to Ogden. Carpe Diem at 11:01 PM

Historic 25th is a unique and  wonderful place. It seems like Ogden is working really hard to support and uplift the community. Its incredibly refreshing to see a town with a downtown  That is completely local. there's been a few new additions to the downtown area recently as well. This Monday take some time and explore historic 25th and see what you can find.

Early in the day at 11am Utah tea room is having their grand opening ribbon cutting. On their facebook the owner says "The day has FINALLY come! Thank you for the PATIENCE, LOVE and SUPPORT. I never knew it would be so much work but it is truly beautiful and the food is awesome! Please join me if you can. Free Drinks to all my FB friends!"  Utah tea room is described as being an Escape to an English Country Garden serving scrumptious food, beverages and exquisite specialty desserts. So head on over and support a member of your community and all the hard work they have done to accomplish their dreams.

Another new addition to historic 25th is sock monkeynaround antiques at 236 historical 25th street. They are
Ogden's source for Vintage, Antique, Shabby Chic, & Retro Items. They opened December first so stop by and check them out.

After a day of shopping  and eating at all the wonderful stores and museums, cherry blossoms, ume designs, slavy, rovalis, roosters, union station  and so many more, its a perfect time to grab a cup of cocoa at uncommon grounds or grounds for coffee and walk over to the Christmas village to see the lights.

Ogden is a very special town, don't forget that and  never take it for granted.  Sometimes we  try so hard to find something more, something better than what we already have that we miss whats right in front of us. Lets all take a moment to revel in what is already here and not wait until its too late.

You only live once; but if you live it right, once is enough. - Adam Marshall

Fashion show benefit for make a wish review at 9:23 PM

Saturday night i finally pried my adorable, curly haired 3 year old off of my leg and managed to get out and go to the Fashion show at borrowed earth emporium. First off the decor in the emporium is so cozy i instantly felt at home . I grabbed a cup of coffee (finally! a cup of coffee comparable to Portland's best) and headed upstairs to the show. Slavica, one of the women who organized the show and who owns Slavy boutique, introduced herself as soon as she saw me. Slavica is a very friendly woman with great taste and shiny pants that i just envied. Anyone who knows me knows that i have a thing for shiny pants. Maybe i was a crow in a past life or maybe it stems from my deep seeded fear of not being reflective enough while biking. Either way, i LOVE shiny pants.

The show started with volunteers from make a wish foundation telling us all a little but about the history of the foundation and about Utah make a wish. They also told us about their own experiences with make a wish when their son, who had an immunodeficiency disease , was granted a wish to Disney land. Not a single dry eye in the house as they opened their hearts to us and told us their story. Unfortunately their son passed away but they decided to dedicate time to helping make a wish.

The local models, both adults and kids, pranced out in wears from Glam, VO, CLuce, Shulami, tookiloo, cherry blossoms and slavy strutting their stuff to a remix of fun music. I took lots of pictures but then my camera stopped working go figure. The clothes were amazing and i made quite a few mental notes of things i want to buy. i saw shiny pants, mohawk hats, slinky dresses, soft sweater dresses, great chunky accessories and my personal fave a fall colored floral dress with a brown leather obi belt. The children models were just too cute for words. donning tutus and fairy wings and sparkly shoes these little tots danced down the runway like seasoned pros. i can not wait to take my daughter to cherry blossoms to pick out a tutu.

After the show The Rectifiers, give or take some members, played some tunes and cracked some jokes. I sipped my coffee and could feel myself sinking into the couch. It was a great show and great display of community building and i commend Slavica and Melisa Mower for organizing this event. Make sure you all check out the great stores that participated in this event-
