 Monday : recaps, mountains and garden parties at 10:08 AM OH what a wonderful weekend! I went to the Ogden music festival, met some Ogden rad mamas and got surprise visit from my in-laws. I am sunburned, stuffed full of good food and my feet feel like i ran a marathon...yeah life is good and it finally feels like SUMMER! The Ogden music festival changed locations and was held in North Fork, UT instead. The views were amazing and the music was beautiful. I was a volunteer at the kids booth which was fun and at time complete chaos. I suppose it meant the kids were having fun if at the end of the day the booth looked like a Technicolor war zone, right?  I wish i could have stayed longer but i had to get back home to get some work done. Saturday was a day of rest and hospital visits when my daughter got a deep cut inside her nose (long story) and needed to get some liquid stitches. Luckily, it was nothing a lollipop couldn't fix. Sunday was a sweltering 84 degrees out and the girl child and i went off to Lions club park for some Ogden Rad Mamas fun. The poor kids were all too hot to play and huddled at the bottom of the twisty slide in the only patch of shade. We somehow managed to get them all to play for a whole 2 hours before they started to look like they were melting. A perfect end to a perfect weekend can not be had without a dinner at roosters. My in-laws have never been to Ogden, UT and we wanted to take them to our favorite place for dinner, of course they loved it too. After getting home the food ITIS kicked in and i passed out for the night. Now it's Monday...back to work but that doesn't mean back to boring. The sun isn't going anywhere and there is plenty to do here in beautiful Ogden, Utah! tonight check out GROW'S garden party: Join us for some fun, feasting and great socializing for women and men at our June Garden Party. The party will be held in the beautiful yard of Matt and Dayna Balls where we held it last year. Last year's turn out was terrific and all had a great time. This year, our featured guest will be Deja, who will be offering her unique talent and teaching all those who are interested in learning some African dance, beginning about 7:00 pm. We will also be joined by Sharon Sweeten, Ogden's finest elemental intuitive, offering short, personal fairy readings and Harmony who will be there with her henna and glitter body paint for those who are interested. There is no charge for these services but heart felt donations are always welcome. The party will be a potluck, so bring something to share and BYOB if you would like to drink alcoholic beverages. As a special treat, the Lost Texan will be bringing by some kind of smoked meat in their very own bar-BBQ sauce for all of us to get a good taste of what they do. Sales proceeds from this exhibit will go to community outreach programs sponsored by Ogden Unitarians congregation *Eccles community arts center: paintings of Travis Crowther and Keith Dabb and the ceramics of Richard Barker during June. The work of Ogden artist, Debra Marin will be featured in the Carriage House Gallery. This weekend:belly dance, roller derby, farewells & fundraisers at 3:05 PM Well its official i am about to embark on my birthday weekend with a terrible head cold. Perhaps i was born with a birthday curse, perhaps i crossed a wicked soul who placed one upon me; however i ended up with a long streak of the birthday blues is a mystery to me. Regardless of my being sick, the world goes on and so does Ogden,Utah. This weekend may be one of the most fun weekends ever and everyone better go out and get crazy in my honor! It took a bit for the he crowd to warm up, it wasn't the usual Mojo goers and everyone was waiting for someone else to get up. I stood in front of the stage as Dirty Blonde took over and soon people gathered around until everyone was standing bobbing their heads even a little hip shake here and there. Dirty Blonde rocked it and the lead singers voice was uniquely epic. Dirty Blonde is a little bit rockabilly, a little bit blues, some indie here and there but mostly just good old fashioned rock n roll. This band is well worth a trip to see them live, a band like this is not easily forgotten. The Dignitaries came on stage with so much energy it was near impossible not to dance around. The lead singer was a powerhouse of energy and knew exactly how to get the crown groovin'. What can only be described as reggae punk with some rock and roll thrown in for good measure, The Dignitaries are anything short of pure joy. There were a couple times that things seemed a bit off beat, more so due to either excitement or technical difficulties than performance, but overall all i wanted to do was skank and drink a mohito and by the second song no one was able to stay sitting down.  Like a step back into a time to the era of Motown , Damato's voice serenades and soothes. His lyrics are genuine with messages that empower and make you want to be better person. Damato has a truly soulful voice and he so effortlessly turns a painful experience into beautiful music that forces you to feel what he feels. By the end of the song the weight of it all lifted, and you're free. Damato is force to be reckoned with , and i am honored to have been given a glimpse of something so powerful.  Hugo came on stage like a modern cowboy, like a cold beer on a summer day. His music has a way of making you forget that anyone is around, you want to dance and sway like you're all alone. I was especially excited to see Hugo live since watching his Thai music video for his song 'Sai Lom'; It was just so beautiful and moving despite my not understanding a single word. Hugo is a mix of blues, Appalachia, soul and rock n roll creating a unique blend that is comparable to no other. Hugo's performance was really one i will never forget, effortless and magic, a perfect ending to a perfect show. Tuesday in ogden, utah at 10:04 AM Oh what a lovely day! There a tiny bit of sun coming out and no rain...yet. What a perfect day to take a stroll around your neighborhood and perhaps meet someone new. Last night i was feeling especially domestic and baked a lovely strawberry lemon pie. sprinter at 11:05 AMToday is the perfect example of the transition from winter to spring, sprinter if you will. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and there is a thin layer of snow on the ground. It's not too cold, not too warm and nothing has bloomed quite yet here in Ogden, Utah. Spring is on the cusp, i can feel it in my bones and my skin aches for months of sunshine. Yesterday i got some lovely news. i was awarded a blog award by the lovely Trissta at "living on the chic" blog. Her blog is all about living chic on the cheap. i know we can all relate to that! she gives herself a monthly budget and then blogs about how she makes its all happen .  So my picks for blog awards are these 5 incredible blogs:Delightfully Tacky- when i need style inspiration this is where i go. She had diy tutorials, beautifully creative outfits and amazing hair! From her blog i learned how to make a faux bois fridge, that blowfish shoes is amazing and that mixing prints is a good thing. check out her blog i just know you'll love it. The beehive blog: life with the queen- This lady is a local Utah blogger and she is very much in the know. check out this blog to learn about all the good things in Utah and to find out about all the cool people too. if there is a queen bee in Utah this lady certainly is it. Little chief honeybee- This blogger has the best giveaways and the best hair! She is incredible creative with her wardrobe and has a super cute STORE. Check out her blog for fantastic prizes and colorful inspiration. Poor girl eats well- As a mama on a budget with a love of gourmet blogs like these keep my dinners fresh. Thursday, one day closer to spring at 11:57 AMI can not wait for winter to be over with, no more colds, no more bulky sweaters HELLO sandals and sundresses! I think the novelty of wearing leggings and high socks has worn off and my legs are starting to look a bit florescent. On the upside spring cleaning is upon us and i am thinking a clothing swap is in order. Anyone interested? I have some news! Indie Ogden and Urban Chic have been plotting a fashion show for some time now. It is finally time to announce it and i am so very excited. Were thinking an April spring show and we need some volunteers. International Women's day at 9:56 AM Today is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women's Day is a national holiday. I am a bit disappointed to say that i have not found a single event happening here in Ogden. SO today i encourage everyone to celebrate women by doing something nice for a women in your life, volunteering somewhere that helps women, listening to some of Ogden's fabulous women musicians or just researching all the amazing women that have come out of Ogden, Utah. Chuks vintage fashion show at 12:52 PMLast night was incredible! Thank goodness for the gentle encouragement of friends who helped it all happen because it was definitely a night i wont soon forget. Kamikazes bar hosted Chuks vintage clothing fashion show with Ulysses and the house was packed. The clothes were all vintage finds from Chuks vintage clothing owned by Carrie Gerber. Everything from 40's Hollywood beauty to 80's new wave glam graced the stage as the models stomped down the runway. I know i was chanting a little ' please don't fall' mantra in my head as i went on stage but luckily no one fell and we all had a blast. Ulysses gave an amazing performance as well, getting everyone on their feet and dancing. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. Have a good day folks! Friday - dancing, pirates and gardens at 10:42 AM Heck yeah! We have survived the week and it's almost time for the weekend. I am so stoked about what is happening that i can hardly contain myself. I get my package of new dresses from mod cloth today and i get to dance around downtown while Mike Brice films the indie Ogden promo video. This is going to be a great day! If you haven't RSVP-ed for the Indie Ogden promo shoot then go do it now! From 7-9pm we will be filming all the cool places downtown. Ive never don't this before and have no idea what i am doing so thankfully Mike Brice is helping out but be warned hilarious chaos will be involved.
