Friday- dance- learn-dance at 10:09 AM

Yesterday's haircut left me feel oh so pretty I even dedicated a post to it HERE. Hunter got to play with a new friend while i got to get my hair revamped and i finally got to try uncommon grounds. Their lattes are superb and the staff is great. They even have a gelato stand in there so i bought some acai berry flavor mmm. They play indie shows there too and they having one tonight so keep reading for the details.

Yesterday was almost perfect except for one thing, UTA. After my sweetie got home i decided to walk over to the grocery store and buy some veggies and fruit. I figured I'd take the bus back since it would be too heavy to carry and because it was a Thursday the bus should run at an appropriate time right? wrong. Apparently the bus stops running really early because i got the stop at 7 and waited and waited and froze and waited. Nothing. I called the number at the stop only to find there is no automated system to tell you times the bus is running and apparently they were now closed. Now i don't know why Utah decided to run buses but in other cities it is to help people get around, reduce the environmental impact of cars and provide a valuable community resource. The buses run until 3am and there are 24 hour automated call center so you can find out when your bus is coming and if your in danger the bus is free. I think UTA really needs to think about revamping its whole system. Even during daylight (the only time it runs apparently) it's never on time and more than once the driver was either rude or disregarded my stop request and made me walk way out of my way. No one wants to ride a bus if its more of a hassle than any other means of transportation. OK end rant.

There are some really rad shows tonight so get ready to bust a move:

Storm cellar-The Storm Cellar presents:Sweatband, Darlin' Broads, The Blu Storks, Shannin Blake. It is a benefit show and only 5 bucks! starts at 6 at the new venue in uncommon grounds.

Mojos- ACOUSTIC FRIDAY: 8- Cade Walker, 8.5- Shane Hickenlooper, 9- Ghost on TV, 9.5- Scott Ferrin, 10- Jake Smith, 10.5- Shanin Lowrey, 11- Brad Rizer, 11.5- Dewey Louies, 12-, Mojos jam 8pm/5bux.

Sandtrap- marinade band- You bring the meat and we'll bring the MARINADE! Blues Funk Reggae Jam-alicious. 9:00pm

Kamikazes- Fox Van Cleef and Red Bennies rocking

Brewskis- gorgeous hussies farewell show 9:30pm

And as always WSU provides some great educational and fun events:
WSU’s Center for Diversity & Unity will sponsor “Let’s Talk: A campus-wide conversation about cultural competence for us all,” 9:30-10:30 a.m., Shepherd Union Room 232, free, 801-626-7243 or adriennegillespie@weber.edu.

WSU’s Department of English and the Utah Council of Teachers of English will host the state-wide Language Arts Festival, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Shepherd Union Ballrooms, free, 801-626-6623.

WSU’s Department of Performing Arts presents Viktor Uzur performing a faculty cello recital, 7:30 p.m., Val A. Browning Center Allred Theater, free, 801-626-6431.

It's unfortunate you encountered difficulties while riding the system. So sorry you were stuck out in the cold.

UTA's service is operated on a schedule determined both by budgetary limitations and ridership.

The agency is not a state funded program. About 71% of UTA's operational funds are generated from local option sales tax revenues, which vary year to year.

When the economy is down and people are spending less on taxable items - new cars, clothes, toys, etc. - UTA's operational budget takes a hit. Right now, the agency is down over $40M from projected.

These budgetary issues have required us to make cuts in service - both in the number of routes and the number of trips. Some of that service will likely be reinstated when the economy improves.

UTA also make route determinations based on efficiency and ridership. If there aren't enough riders either in a particular area or at a certain time of day, it just doesn't make sense to operate the bus.

It's unclear why you were unable to reach our automated telephone system. We do have a 24-hour customer service line that provides bus schedules (801-RIDEUTA, select option four). Live agents are available during peak hours 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Finally, should you have a poor encounter while riding the service, you're encouraged to contact our customer service department by phone or online to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Thank you for your candor, we appreciate the feedback.

adventures in the kitchen at 9:49 PM

<span class=Photobucket" border="0">

my first love is cooking. Cooking is my release and i just seem to know instinctual what to do with food. I can taste a dish in a restaurant and know every ingredient and make it exactly as it was served . I love shopping for fresh produce and herbs and meat and imagining all the things i could create with them. Last night i made my first pork tenderloin, I've never been a big fan of pork except bacon of course and so i decided to be a bit adventurous.

Pork tenderloin in blackberry sauce and lemon balsamic spinach salad.

I made a blackberry sauce using red wine, balsamic vinegar, onions, honey and blackberries of course. While that was simmering into a reduction i rubbed the pork tenderloin down with salt and pepper and browned it on both sides in a skillet. After i put the pork in the oven at 450 degrees i tossed an onion bagel broken into bits with melted butter and i threw that in the oven to make croutons. As the pork and croutons cooked (croutons only take a couple minutes) i strained the sauce with a mesh sieve and places the solids in a bowl, i put the liquid back on the oven to cook some more.
When the pork was done cooking i took it out and placed it on a cutting board and let it sit 10 minutes to retain its juices. I then cut it into thick slices and placed it back into its pan with the pork juices. Ii drizzles half of the blackberry sauce liquids onto the pork and let it set a minute while i made the salad.
For the salad i tossed fresh spinach with lemon oil and juice, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. I then tossed in walnuts and raisins and added croutons on top.
For the presentation i put pork slices on a plate and drizzled them with more blackberry sauce adding a spoonful of the solids on the side. Place a healthy serving of salad on the plate and serve. TA DA! a healthy delicious dinner for 3 with plenty of leftover for under 20 bucks and about 45 minutes cooking time.

Oh and desert was a raspberry ale and chocolate. it literally lasted like raspberry cheesecake together.

Healthy dinners do not have to be time consuming or expensive. By buying a share in a co-op, using coupons and buying in bulk healthy eating can be cheaper than the alternative. Most nights I don't like to spend a lot of time cooking as i have a hungry girl child and a hungry husband pacing around me asking for samples. I plan ahead before shopping and create quick and delicious meals that take under and hour. Its easy! You can do it too! If you have a favorite recipe you'd like to share, ill try it out and post about it here!

NOW on with the show-
Today is Thursday one more day until Friday, but don't fret this Thursday is going to be plenty of fun to get you through until tomorrow.

Utah Symphony- Stravinsky's Pulcinella
Keith Lockhart returns to conduct two brilliant works: Bizet's Carmen Suites and Stravinsky's witty Pulcinella. You'll also enjoy Adamo's beautiful and virtuosic Harp Concerto

A FAYLENE SKY
A Faylene sky is an incredible Electronica/Metal/Screamo band from Rhode Island. Come and support them as they play their first ever show at The Basement. also featuring- Risen For Revenge, Merry Go Grunt and Minus-Steven.

Open mic night at Mojos
Come and get on stage with some of Ogden's best musicians. Carlos Emjay Hosts this weeks open mic and its definitely going to be amazing. Bring your kids and bring your friends because Mojos is always family friendly.

Tuesday at brewskis at 11:01 PM

Being new to town i am always on the lookout for fun places to hangout. slowly but surly i am trying out some of the local flavor. This week i plan on stopping by a bar I've passed by quite a few times on Historic 25th. Brewskis has an event happening most nights from  metal karaoke to sports events and from hip hop  to open mics. Since i haven't been there yet i figured I'd let brewskis tell you about themselves,  pulled from their website here is what they have to say about the place.

Located on "Notorious" 25th Street in downtown Ogden's Historic District. Brewskis was founded in April1994. Searching for a decor theme for this 1940's bar was consummated after watching a Bill Murray Saturday Night Live rerun. Hence, Brewskis was born. More neon signs than any club you've ever been in.In fact, the only lights in the place are in the bathrooms and one above the pool table. The rest of Brewskis is illuminated by the warm glow of neon beer signs. Old neon, new neon.it's really remarkable.  Twenty tap handles, combined with the "best damn pizza in town", unique appetizer, humongous sandwiches and killer salads make Brewskis Historic 25th a local favorite amongst the twenty-one to fifty-somethings. A superb sound system, (probably playing a little too  loud)  a huge fifteen foot sports theater screen in the game room, always some kind of game on, live bands every weekend, never a cover, and an energy level unsurpassed by any other club in the area makes for a rousing good time.Open 7 days a week at 10 AM to 1 AM (Midnight on Sundays) Brewskis Historic 25th is definitely a throwback to the old electric alley days.

Tuesday night Brewskis is hosting a Utah favorite hip hop group called sweatshop union. Sweatshop Union is the undisputed heavyweight of North Western hip-hop, and has earned a reputation as the hardest working collective in the region. Having performed over five hundred shows internationally, their live performance has become a mainstay of Canadian music. Currently, their dedicated fan base is enjoying the recent releases of both Sweatshop Union’s Dirty Circus and Pigeon Hole. Also, almost finished is the long awaited fifth release in the Sweatshop catalog. The EP comes packaged with a DVD and will be released this winter.

And lets not forget about heavy metal karaoke at Brewskis on Tuesdays.  After the show live out your rock n roll fantasies with some metal hits. And if you know a Brewskis fan and want to get them an awesome x-mas gift check out their t-shirts, now on sale.

a day of rest? rest is for suckers! at 10:30 AM

Sundays in Utah can be a drag. nothing is open, there doesn't seem like there is anything to do and your bored to tears. don't fret! Ive got some ideas for you.

With Christmas just around the corner there is undoubtedly a few gifts you still need to pick up. Even if you're a super organized early shopper, and you got that shiny 'always prepared for x-mas' merit badge, i bet there is still someone you could get a gift for...yourself perhaps? So, head over to the borrowed earth emporium and check out the winter market. local artisans in attendance every weekend to sell their wares during winter. Buy local! Family activities, yoga, coffee and food too. http://www.borrowedearthemporium.com/calendar/

hungry after a morning of shopping? luckily there are quite a few amazing local eateries near by. whether your craving an amazing burger or salad with a fresh micro brew at roosters, a filling Italian lunch at Rovalis or you just need to have some sweets at vintage cupcakes there is definitely something for you on historic 25Th. While you are strolling around check out the local shops for some great holiday deals, head over to the Christmas village or try out the new trolley. Historic 25Th is my favorite place in Ogden and it's a one stop shop for support your town.

after all that shopping you could be pretty tired but if your not then get dressed up and head out to one of the great bars in Ogden. my personal fave is kamikazes but if your looking for action teazers has NFL Sundays. Teazers is the #1 spot for Football. They have the Sunday Ticket and play every single game. Stop in for great Sunday Brunch, Wing Specials and Beer Specials and football Bingo with great Prizes. Football not your thing? Go ahead, try it out, you just might like it. At the very least you can get a kick out of watching grown men throw tantrums over sports.

So there! now you have no excuse to say your bored on a Sunday. Don't be afraid to go try something new you just might surprise yourself.

Be sure to spread the word about indie Ogden by following this blog, twitter or sharing it with your friends!
