Chuks vintage fashion show at 12:52 PMLast night was incredible! Thank goodness for the gentle encouragement of friends who helped it all happen because it was definitely a night i wont soon forget. Kamikazes bar hosted Chuks vintage clothing fashion show with Ulysses and the house was packed. The clothes were all vintage finds from Chuks vintage clothing owned by Carrie Gerber. Everything from 40's Hollywood beauty to 80's new wave glam graced the stage as the models stomped down the runway. I know i was chanting a little ' please don't fall' mantra in my head as i went on stage but luckily no one fell and we all had a blast. Ulysses gave an amazing performance as well, getting everyone on their feet and dancing. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. Have a good day folks! I gotta go drink some emergen-c and watch Star Wars and rest. What a wild night! Fashion show benefit for make a wish review at 9:23 PMSaturday night i finally pried my adorable, curly haired 3 year old off of my leg and managed to get out and go to the Fashion show at borrowed earth emporium. First off the decor in the emporium is so cozy i instantly felt at home . I grabbed a cup of coffee (finally! a cup of coffee comparable to Portland's best) and headed upstairs to the show. Slavica, one of the women who organized the show and who owns Slavy boutique, introduced herself as soon as she saw me. Slavica is a very friendly woman with great taste and shiny pants that i just envied. Anyone who knows me knows that i have a thing for shiny pants. Maybe i was a crow in a past life or maybe it stems from my deep seeded fear of not being reflective enough while biking. Either way, i LOVE shiny pants. The show started with volunteers from make a wish foundation telling us all a little but about the history of the foundation and about Utah make a wish. They also told us about their own experiences with make a wish when their son, who had an immunodeficiency disease , was granted a wish to Disney land. Not a single dry eye in the house as they opened their hearts to us and told us their story. Unfortunately their son passed away but they decided to dedicate time to helping make a wish. The local models, both adults and kids, pranced out in wears from Glam, VO, CLuce, Shulami, tookiloo, cherry blossoms and slavy strutting their stuff to a remix of fun music. I took lots of pictures but then my camera stopped working go figure. The clothes were amazing and i made quite a few mental notes of things i want to buy. i saw shiny pants, mohawk hats, slinky dresses, soft sweater dresses, great chunky accessories and my personal fave a fall colored floral dress with a brown leather obi belt. The children models were just too cute for words. donning tutus and fairy wings and sparkly shoes these little tots danced down the runway like seasoned pros. i can not wait to take my daughter to cherry blossoms to pick out a tutu. After the show The Rectifiers, give or take some members, played some tunes and cracked some jokes. I sipped my coffee and could feel myself sinking into the couch. It was a great show and great display of community building and i commend Slavica and Melisa Mower for organizing this event. Make sure you all check out the great stores that participated in this event- cherry blossoms- http://www.littlecherryblossoms.com tookiloo- http://www.tookiloo.com/ and slavy- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Slavy/181660839878 Be sure to spread the word about indie Ogden by following this blog, twitter or sharing it with your friends! Indie Ogden begins! at 9:39 PM![]() having just moved to Ogden from Portland in the beginning of snow season without a single friend (besides my hubby whose job transferred us here) i was suddenly struck with panic. will i be stuck watching Oprah and sobbing all winter? will i get cabin fever and gain enough upper body strength to pick up an ax? what the heck is there to do in this town? is there even anyone here? OK OK i had a moment of temporary insanity adjusting to the differences between happening Portland and seemingly quiet Ogden. But, after some good old fashioned Googling, i found quite a few surprising and exciting events going on. i also found that there was no central calendar of events, no local city paper , blog or group and pulling up all the websites daily to see if there was an event happening that day was tiresome. so here i am hoping to help you find out about the amazing events in your town. Ogden is a hidden gem and there is much to be explored so lets get to it. if you have an event, a venue or an idea you want me to list or review by all means send me an email at thedeadarentpowerless@hotmail.com Be sure to spread the word about indie Ogden by following this blog, twitter or sharing it with your Labels: art, events, fashion, indie, local, music, ogden, utah Chelsi Archibald said on December 02, 2010 You're brilliant!
