Friday- snow in spring and rock n roll at 10:49 AM

So remember how it was spring and we were all wearing sandals and t shirts and playing at the park? yeah, that's done now, nature decided it's winter again. Its like giving someone a chocolate Sunday , letting them take a bit and then throwing a pile a dirt on top. It's just rude and unnecessary. Now i love Ogden and i have to admit that the snow does make things look incredibly beautiful but i have a pile of sundresses that are just waiting patiently to be worn and all i want to do lately is sit in the grass and eat trail mix. Is that so much to ask for? W

Until nature decides to make it spring again ill guess we will just have to look at this as an opportunity to make out very last (please be the last) snowman of the season. it will be a small, muddy and probably sad looking snowman but it will be a snowman none the less. We could also make our last snow angel, have our last snowball fight and sled our last hill. Spring will be here before we know it ...right? right?

Today is Friday which means there are so many things happening i think my head may explode. Here's a list of tonight's events to gear up and get out there and support local!

Picture It In Ruins at 9:26 AM

Coming on the 19th of march is going to be an epic day of music in Ogden. Picture it in ruins is coming to play they metal matinee at the basement. It's an early show At one but don't let that stop you from witnessing the magic that is ' picture it in ruins'. Brutal thrashing and melodic harmonies make picture it in ruins and beautiful mix. You will be blown away by this band and leave wondering why you haven't listened to them sooner. I got they chance to do a little pre-show interview with one of they band members so check it gout and start getting geared up for "THE METAL MATINEE" at The Basement.

all questions answered by Cody Stevenson

introduce the band members and the instruments they play. Eddie Kopfman- guitar, Chris Chamber- guitar, Lucas Friebel- vocals, Caleb Stevenson- drums, Cody Stevenson- bass
What made you want to play music? i guess just growing up listening to music really. Seemed like a good use of time.
how did you meet? We all meet in school, just at different times.
how was the band formed? Caleb, Ed, and I had been playing together already for some time and wanted to expand our sound. We added Luke to vocals right before a summer tour one year, and we asked Chris to come just to hang out. He learned our songs on the way to Arizona and he's been with us ever since.
your band has been together for a long time, how has your music evolved? Well, our music had evolved just as our tastes in music have changed. Started out as a simple punk band, and grew gradually into what we are today.
what are your musical influences? anything and everything
describe picture it in ruins. Picture it in ruins is everything we want to hear in music. I'm sure we resemble other bands, but we try to be original as we can. People say we sound like Between The Buried And Me with our own spin on it.
Your touring with antagonist, how has the tour been so far? Hasn't started yet, but i have a good feeling about it. The guys in Antagonist are awesome, and we always like playing shows with them.
what is the music scene like in green river, wy? Honestly not much of a scene. There are concerts here and there, but it's not like bigger cities. Tours don't come through, so kids usually drive to SLC if they want to see bands play.
coming from a small town how do you keep the buzz around your band alive? We use the Internet a lot, and we've been lucky enough to be featured on blog pages. We don't tour a ton, so it's important to try and keep people from forgetting about us.
There has been quite a few articles online raving about Picture it in ruins, any talks of being signed soon? Not really. Those articles have been great, and we gained quite a few fans from them, no signs of that right now.
What label would you love to be on? Prosthetic Records would be nice, or Metal Blade. Lots of talented bands on both labels
What band would you love to tour with? Love to tour with any band, but Protest The Hero would be awesome, as well as Between The Buried And Me.
Any suggestions on lessser known bands you think we should hear? SLC local band Dethrone The Sovereign are a very talented group, also Fallujah from San Francisco, CA
Are you planning on doing anything special while in ogden, utah? Hopefully just seeing some familiar faces and friends from the area.
final words? Thanks for taking an interest in the music we create!

Students will also be participating in clinical work to evaluate procedures that can be implemented in order to improve air quality in Ghana, as many workers work in toxic environments, such as tar pits, where their health is greatly compromised. Toxic environments like these contribute to a lower life expectancy and lower quality of life.

The basement valentines show at 10:11 AM

Last night i bundled up threw on an extra pair of socks and headed out to The Basements valentines show. The basement is a rad space in downtown Ogden hosting everything from metal shows to acoustic indie shows. The interior reminds me of any typical basement, concrete and dust and a ton of teenagers. Being in the basement makes me feel like i back on the summer of 2003 all over again. I was young and free and traveling around with a bunch of punk rock runaways going to shows and just being young. AHHH those were the days and the basement captures that perfectly.

Darlin' Broads played first holding nothing back and wailing like there was no tomorrow. The drummer was exceptional and not a beat off and the guitarist/vocals knew how to play and he did it well. I loved the soft melodic breakdown followed by spastic insanity. They reminded me of Chinese stars- fast, loud and danceable.
Wedroplikebombs played next and opened with a great rendition of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's song Maps. As each song climaxed i half expected the singer to break something, his enthusiasm was unmatched. If you haven't seen these guys play then keep tabs on them, they are a must see.

I know I'm supposed to be unbiased but hell, I'm not one for following rules so my favorite act of the night was S.L.F.M. Simply a girl and ukulele but oh so much more. She dominates the stage as if she owned it and her songs are clever and catchy. In between songs she is soft spoken and shy but when she is signing she sure knows how to growl.

Sweat band is teenage indie rock band. Hmm...maybe they aren't all teenagers but can i just call them that anyway, it sounds good. Sweat band brought a crowd and the crowd dance wildly. There were some technical difficulties but that didn't stop them from giving it their all. Their songs reminded me of lightning bolt and can only be described as noise-dance-noise...but in a good way.

The last performer is stayed for was another solo performer who goes by spooky ghost when he is all alone. A great voice and great shoes this boy knows how to woo the ladies.... and the boys. He played a cover of teenage dream by Katie perry and i call still hear the teenage girls squealing.

And for the man behind the curtain- Jason Allen is the owner of The Basement, Storm Cellar and Sound wizard. Having a space for people to come and play and hear music is so vital for communities especially for the younger folk and he is doing a fantastic job. Be sure to catch one or all of The Basements upcoming shows!

Local spotlight- Ogden's Indie folk music scene at 9:52 AM

Ogden Is full of surprises. From the moment i moved here i became obsessed with Ogden's bustling music scene. There are so many amazing metal and country bands but today i am going to give you the lowdown on Ogden's indie folk music scene. what is indie folk music?
Indie folk is a genre of music that is hard to define. The sounds range from soulful mountain melodies to rockin' electric beats. Indie folk is more about the feelings that the music evokes than the actual sounds. Often bands have a lot of members playing unique and traditional instruments but sometimes it is just a person and a guitar. Artists often draw influence form traditional American mountain music, blues and modern indie rock. Bands like radiohead, neutral milk hotel and Elliot smith paved the way but with each new artist the genre evolves.
Indie folk is my favorite genre of music and the best sounds usually comes from small towns like Ogden. The Very first show i went to after moving to Ogden was the Marny Proudfit c-d release show. I got there a bit late and had to leave a bit early but i till managed to be able to see Kat day, santa fe skeletons, beargrowl wolfhowl , mountain hymns and of course Marny Proudfit. I was so impressed with that show and realized that Ogden has a lot more to offer than i realized. so here we go on a tour of the Ogden indie folk bands. . .

Beargrowl, wolfhowl- Scott Ferrin , Ethan Beckstrand, Eric Pectol ,Mitch Olsen blend folk and modern instrumentals beautifully. They play in sync as if they have always played together, as if its what they are meant to do. You can catch a sample of their moving song 'terrified' on their facebook page.
♥Mermaid baby- Jordan Ballou, Jordan DeLaCruz, Logan "Gingie" Arnold formed mermaid baby in 2009 and are currently working on their first c-d. mermaid baby music makes me want to dance wildly. It makes me think of long lost friends and summer adventures. Check out their reverb nation for a sample of some of their music. And be sure to check them out February 12th at the basement.
♥Mountain Hymns- band members are Seaver Yates, Corbyn Henderson, Spencer Reylea, Kramer McCausland, Ryan Reylea. The fist time i saw mountain hymns i fell in love. They are A perfect mix of folk, indie rock and mountain harmony. Their lyrics are haunting and soothing and i just love the organic feel of it all. check out their music HERE.
Marny Proudfit- Marny proudfit gives me chills. Her voice is so incredible. You see her on stage and expect her to whisper and then out comes this incredible voice. Not surprisinlgy Marny just release her first c-d and you can pick one up at one off her upcoming shows and keep a lookout for her music coming soon on itunes .
Josaleigh Pollett- Josaleigh has a sweet voice and even sweeter lyrics. she will sing you to sleep and you will have magic dreams. When i tried to imagine what she looked like all i saw were cats.
♥Jed Keipp- Upbeat and jazzy Jed Keipp sings songs that make you want to fall in love.

Other indie folk bands near Ogden -
♥Matt Ben Jackson- Stratton McCausland, Dan Pectol, Casey Romney, Austin Frodsham.
♥The descriptive- Kramer James McCausland, Michael James MooRussell, Spencer Relyea IV, Scott Robinson Fletcher
♥Sons of mothers- Alan Sanders,John Paul, Ren Blackburn and Blake Smith
♥Holy water buffalo- Thomas Clyde Brunson III, Jeffrey Boone Vanderlinden, Steven James Siggard, Zaz Alexander McDonald
The sweater friends- honest, quirky songs
Santa fe skeletons- Mark Harris, Jason Strong, Colby Deaton, Skipper Harris
