 It's good to be back at 10:21 AMSpring is upon us (I hope) and soon we will be content with just laying in the sun. I don't know about you but when it's gloomy out I need to keep busy. Whether it's spring cleaning my house or going to a show I just can not sit still. Lucky got you it seems Ogden knows how to jeep us busy. With a ton of events and fabulous local stores theres no reason to stay indoors even on a gloomy day like this one. Tonight why don't you try something new, pick an event you wouldn't normally attend and try it out. Introduce yourself to a stranger or pick something you've never heard if off the menu. Whenever I'm feeling shy or unsure about something I think of the frank sanatra quote " you only live once but if ya live it like me one will be enough". Hurray! at 9:48 AMSo I downloaded a blogger app that allows me to post simple text on my blog! Yay I feel whole again! I missed blogging so much and although it's going to be 10x more work to blog this way it feels good to be doing it. Toxic environments like these contribute to a lower life expectancy and lower quality of life. Indie Ogden Utah's 100th post! at 10:42 AM Today is a glorious day. It is the 100Th post on the indie Ogden Utah blog! It's so incredible how far this blog has come since i started it. What began as a way to entertain myself while adjusting to a new town has become a gateway to incredible opportunities, wonderful friends and amazing adventures. I can not wait to see what the future has in store! Id like to send out a big THANK YOU to all of the people that have supported me, all of the fans of the blog and to everyone who loves this town and are striving to make it better. There has been something i have been wanting to do for years but never had the proper inspiration to be able to accomplish it. I am excited to say that i am finally making a ZINE! The indie Ogden Utah zine will feature writing, art and reviews from local folks as well as a calendar of events, a business directory and hot local deals. Chuks vintage fashion show at 12:52 PMLast night was incredible! Thank goodness for the gentle encouragement of friends who helped it all happen because it was definitely a night i wont soon forget. Kamikazes bar hosted Chuks vintage clothing fashion show with Ulysses and the house was packed. The clothes were all vintage finds from Chuks vintage clothing owned by Carrie Gerber. Everything from 40's Hollywood beauty to 80's new wave glam graced the stage as the models stomped down the runway. I know i was chanting a little ' please don't fall' mantra in my head as i went on stage but luckily no one fell and we all had a blast. Ulysses gave an amazing performance as well, getting everyone on their feet and dancing. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure. Have a good day folks! Friday - dancing, pirates and gardens at 10:42 AM Heck yeah! We have survived the week and it's almost time for the weekend. I am so stoked about what is happening that i can hardly contain myself. I get my package of new dresses from mod cloth today and i get to dance around downtown while Mike Brice films the indie Ogden promo video. This is going to be a great day! If you haven't RSVP-ed for the Indie Ogden promo shoot then go do it now! From 7-9pm we will be filming all the cool places downtown. Ive never don't this before and have no idea what i am doing so thankfully Mike Brice is helping out but be warned hilarious chaos will be involved. Thursday at 5:20 PM whew today was exhausting and fun. I got to play dress up at chuks and try on some outfits for the upcoming retro fashion show. Who knew trying on clothes could be such a work out. This event is going to be lots of fun so you simply must go! Plus there are some exciting Indie Ogden Utah collabs in the works. Wednesday-Thrills and chills at 10:55 AM Yesterday was amazing. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and i barely even needed a jacket. I haven't been on my bike in a few days and was itching to ride So the babe and i bikes into downtown to meet Bryan for a family date. Our go to place in downtown is always Roosters, we never seem like a burden being there and the food is always great. Today i plan on going to the tree house museum, the best place to exhaust your kids ever. The trick is to play with them but not too much. For instance point out something cool and say' race you there' but pretend run while they bolt. By the end of your trip they are ready for a 3 day nap and you still have enough energy to catch up on your cheesy 80's sitcoms. Indie Ogden Utah has a new Addition- JulieAnn Carter-Winward. The girl wears a gray hoodie jacket, lined with flannel. It's not a parka, but it's warm enough against the chill. Her hands delve deep into her pockets and strain the coat away from her body; her fists show through the cloth and extend forward as if they try to escape their owner. As she stands on the cement, she slides her hands out of their cocoons. Slowly, her elbows rise behind her so she can rest the palms of her hands on her lower back. For a moment her shoulders collapse, curving her back into a "C" shape; her black ponytail flops forward against her cheek and she grimaces in discomfort as her protruding belly seems to disappear behind her jacket. She straightens and watches the car expectantly. A young man emerges from the car and steps up to the curb. His feathery-thin mustache can be seen like a shadow, barely gracing his lip. Smoke balloons around his face like fogged glass as the tip of his cigarette brightens momentarily. I see black eyes flit toward me for brief moment. Untouched by anything he sees, he turns to face the girl. They stare at each other and she, too, glances my way. They could not see me; the sun barely scrapes the tops of the mountains and by her frown, I suspect that the new morning rays have just emerged over the snow-capped peaks. She raises a delicate hand to her brow to ward off the glimmering light. I see her lips move and he nods his head in assent. Her words are muted by my windshield, but her companion hears her; his face registers nothing but a void mien. With a flick of her wrist she flips her ponytail back in place. As she turns to face the blonde-brick strip mall facade, her gait is unsteady; her ample abdomen seems to reach forward and propel her toward the door. The young man waits as she reaches for the shiny gold knob. She holds the door open for a moment, her back to him. Eyes closed, he devours the smoke with collapsing cheeks; an intense draw that alights the end of the cigarette to a final blaze. With a furtive look around, he tosses the smoking butt to the sidewalk. It seems to take him an eternity to reach the door. His feet shuffle with small steps, as when a young boy's feet kicks up the sand on a beach. Unaware of his proximity, the girl lets the door close behind her. He stops and regards the closed door. He does not reach for the handle right away. Instead, he stops and surreptitiously glances about the sidewalk and parking lot once more. His face is passive, vacuous and resigned He reaches for the gold handle and walks through the door behind his companion. He enters the clinic, seemingly alone. Tuesday- Buy local at 10:59 AM Its Tuesday, the first day of March and the sky is crystal blue. What beautiful weather to go out and explore Ogden in and there are some great deals and events happening today. Hello monday at 10:49 AM Hello there dear readers, The past few days have been so exciting and yet so frustrating. We toured the lovely Ivy lane reception center and fell in love. I really don't think we're even going to look at any other places. Now its just about saving and planning and trying to make it all come together. It is super stressful but i am trying not to let the monetary part ruin my excitement for the rest of it. After we toured the ivy lane we went on a family adventure! We stopped in vintage cupcakes for pink ladies and got a dozen more for my tea party . Next, we went over to the tree house museum for some exhausting family fun. The tree house is so incredible and there is so much to do. We were all tired and ready for a nap before we could visit all the exhibits. After our exhausting run at the tree house hunter fell asleep and the boy and i were ready for some grub. I was craving wings and had a groupon for wing nutz so we headed over. I thought it was a regular restaurant but when i walked in everyone stopped and stared at us and our kid making us feel incredibly awkward so we slowly backed out of there and headed to our favorite spot- Roosters. There is nothing better when you're exhausted than biting into a giant burger and sipping on a cold drink. I love roosters, they are always so nice and the food is fast and good. I am the type of person who will be a loyal customer for life as long as the service is good and the atmosphere is inviting. Ive gone to places with top notch gourmet food that will bring you to your knees but the service was so horrendous i never returned. Roosters has both great food and great service. After all that walking i was ready for home and as soon as i hit the couch i was gone. luckily it gave me a chance to get plenty of rest because in the morning i realized i had forgotten to go to the store for tea party supplies. Sunday morning was a gloriously beautiful morning and i had no problem motivating myself to hop on my bike and head over to the store. The sky was blue, the air was fresh and it was warm enough to bike without gloves. It was definitely a wind in your hair kind of day. The tea party turned out lovely and ended up being 2 parties in one. The first wave of party goers was mellow and sweet, the second wave brought the ruckus. Its a shame my camera died because everyone was dressed up so cute. I'll definitely have to host another party soon. The house was clean, i had my Jammies on and i was going to get some writing done only to find my computer crashed....again. My laptop will only stay on for about 10 minutes at a time before just shutting off , and not from overheating. Its beyond broken, this poor computer needs to be taken out back and put out of its misery. Time to start saving up for a new one, hopefully i can get one before this one dies permanently. Alison, the hair whisperer at 11:27 PM I cant stop touching my hair, its so friggin' soft.I think that Alison Compton should get a hair whisperer award for her amazing work . Firstly she asked me what i loved and hated about my hair and based my haircut around that. who knew LISTENING to your client would guarantee them a great cut. Apparently not the lady that butchered my last do, oh what a lopsided disaster that was. Alison explained everything she was doing and listened to my input all the way. The end result is more than i expected and i am so incredibly happy. She even knew what 'make me look like indie queen Jenny Lewis' meant and she did it perfectly! Alison has been a cosmetologist since 2003 and graduated before she was even out of high school, talk about dedication. Her specialty is coloring (just check out her own incredible hair) but she is always updated herself on the newest styles and hair trends and loves to give people new looks. Wednesday at 10:34 AM As usual Wednesday is jam packed with awesomeness. I am getting over my cold and have mustered up enough energy to clean the heck out of my house. something about being sick gives me an overwhelming urge to sanitize EVERYTHING. Utah women who rock at 9:45 AMWith support from places like women's red rock festival , so many rad venues that embrace local talent without judgment and unwavering community loyalty it's no wonder Utah is full to the brim with talented women. The girls of the indie rock scene here in Utah are not interested in being in the background. They belt out their music with gusto and play their instruments like a gods. They are full of magic and power and they are forces to me reckoned with. A list of all of those to love in Utah would be far too long SO behold my favorites: Plastic furs- lucid, eerie, sexy and captivating, plastic furs invokes images of psychedelic 60's red light erotica and manic dancing. Stefanie Marlow is an incredible drummer and her steady hand keeps you swaying to the beat with images of deserts, moons and go go boots dancing in your mind .  Lindsay Heath- her music is beyond describable. Her harp sounds like 10 hands at once and her beats are haunting. Lindsay Heath writes and performs piano / keys, vocals, drum kit + percussion, guitar, organ, harpsichord as well as creating beats and sounds. She currently performs with the Lindsay heath orchestra with a group of talented musicians creating beautifully haunting music Shanin Blake- Oh how i swoon for this sweet voice. Her bright blue curly hair and love songs make it hard to look away. You can find her singing in a coffee shop, all eyes fixed in her direction hanging onto every word.  S.L.F.M- This manic ukulele playing lady has stolen the hearts of Utah and beyond with her witty lyrics and gifts of mustaches on sticks. Years of hard work playing on the street, at house shows and wooing her audiences with her songs in waves of whispers and growls have played off as she recently opened for sonic youth. Neon trees- neon trees is a local Utah favorite coming out of Provo. Their music has topped the charts and brought the indie spotlight over to Utah. Their drummer Elaine Bradley has inspired countless little girls to pound on the table at dinner time and dream of making it big.  Marney Proudfit- This girl can sing like no other. her voice is raspy and sweet and she can serenade you like a siren. Her first album "go lightly" just came out and you can get it on Amazon HERE. Her song 'give it back' has been repeating in y head for days, i just can't get enough. La Farsa- A unique voice fronts this bands and she is nothing short of magical. Her bluesy voice on top of layers gypsy music, r&b sexuality and ethereal melodies makes for a beautiful mix. Vocalist Erin Haley calls it 'Free market anarchy' and i couldn't agree with her more.  Josaleigh Pollett- like listening to your best friend tell you everything is going to be OK, hearing Josaleigh's music lays a blanket of calm over me. A teenage girl with a guitar may sound like a thousand cliches but this girl has a real talent for songwriting. Listen and weep...literally. Calm paradox- Michelle Kennedy is a driven girl determined to make things happen for herself without having to rely on anyone but her own spirit. Her newest single retrograde is a summer song that has you pressing repeat over and over and over...
