 saturday- contests and snow fights at 10:23 AM Igloos ruleYesterday was an incredibly frustrating day. i had to go back and change indie Ogden's links on everything I've ever been linked on. Today is guaranteed to be a lovely day. There is a blanket of beautiful snow on the ground, plenty to do and its the weekend. I am so excited to build an igloo in my backyard and take pretty snow pictures and most of all to tour ivy lane for our wedding venue. I have waited so long for this, i feel like a kid on Christmas. The cold doesn't even bother me today and I think i am finally starting to get used to this whole 'winter' thing. Utah women who rock at 9:45 AMWith support from places like women's red rock festival , so many rad venues that embrace local talent without judgment and unwavering community loyalty it's no wonder Utah is full to the brim with talented women. The girls of the indie rock scene here in Utah are not interested in being in the background. They belt out their music with gusto and play their instruments like a gods. They are full of magic and power and they are forces to me reckoned with. A list of all of those to love in Utah would be far too long SO behold my favorites: Plastic furs- lucid, eerie, sexy and captivating, plastic furs invokes images of psychedelic 60's red light erotica and manic dancing. Stefanie Marlow is an incredible drummer and her steady hand keeps you swaying to the beat with images of deserts, moons and go go boots dancing in your mind .  Lindsay Heath- her music is beyond describable. Her harp sounds like 10 hands at once and her beats are haunting. Lindsay Heath writes and performs piano / keys, vocals, drum kit + percussion, guitar, organ, harpsichord as well as creating beats and sounds. She currently performs with the Lindsay heath orchestra with a group of talented musicians creating beautifully haunting music Shanin Blake- Oh how i swoon for this sweet voice. Her bright blue curly hair and love songs make it hard to look away. You can find her singing in a coffee shop, all eyes fixed in her direction hanging onto every word.  S.L.F.M- This manic ukulele playing lady has stolen the hearts of Utah and beyond with her witty lyrics and gifts of mustaches on sticks. Years of hard work playing on the street, at house shows and wooing her audiences with her songs in waves of whispers and growls have played off as she recently opened for sonic youth. Neon trees- neon trees is a local Utah favorite coming out of Provo. Their music has topped the charts and brought the indie spotlight over to Utah. Their drummer Elaine Bradley has inspired countless little girls to pound on the table at dinner time and dream of making it big.  Marney Proudfit- This girl can sing like no other. her voice is raspy and sweet and she can serenade you like a siren. Her first album "go lightly" just came out and you can get it on Amazon HERE. Her song 'give it back' has been repeating in y head for days, i just can't get enough. La Farsa- A unique voice fronts this bands and she is nothing short of magical. Her bluesy voice on top of layers gypsy music, r&b sexuality and ethereal melodies makes for a beautiful mix. Vocalist Erin Haley calls it 'Free market anarchy' and i couldn't agree with her more.  Josaleigh Pollett- like listening to your best friend tell you everything is going to be OK, hearing Josaleigh's music lays a blanket of calm over me. A teenage girl with a guitar may sound like a thousand cliches but this girl has a real talent for songwriting. Listen and weep...literally. Calm paradox- Michelle Kennedy is a driven girl determined to make things happen for herself without having to rely on anyone but her own spirit. Her newest single retrograde is a summer song that has you pressing repeat over and over and over... Buy local tuesday at 9:37 AM Hurray we all survived valentines day. I spent my day with my daughter making a billion construction paper hearts and running around the yard chasing each other around. When my sweetie came home we made pizza from scratch and sipped on organic soda and giggled over candy hearts in Spanish- why is there a que' paso heart? lol. I feel so blessed to have such an amazing family and they keep me going strong. OK no more mushy gushy lets get on to the good stuff. Its a beautiful day for the dentist? at 9:34 AM Remember way back in time, last week when i took my daughter to the dentist for an exam? well, today is the day for the BIG PROCEDURE dun dun dun. During her exam they found some teeth that needed fixing due to my daughter love of all things extreme and today is the day she gets them capped. My insurance only covers the silver caps so were paying an ungodly amount out of pocket so that she can have her beautiful teeth back. I am so nervous for her but she did so wonderful last time that i have hope that we can avoid a hulk situation. Its Amazing outside and I'd hate to see it go to waste sitting inside all day so we decided to bike to the dentist. Family caravan! It is literally only 9 blocks away so don't get excited folks, this isn't an epic adventure. Indie Ogden is takign off! at 10:19 AM Hello dear readers, i do hope you enjoyed the little Monday mixer. I loved exchanging blog posts with the lovely mama at le dulce vita and it was fun learning all about Savannah from a locals perspective. A good portion of my life was lived in Georgia from FT.Benning to Richmond Hill and scattered in between. Savannah is such an amazing town filled with great artists and great bands and it's definitely worth it to visit. There has been such a great response from the guest blog post and the local spotlight that it is now going to be a weekly gig but not on the same day. Local spotlights will continue on Monday and guest blog posts (which will mostly be local bloggers) will be on Thursdays starting next week so keep and eye out! Indie Ogden begins! at 9:39 PM having just moved to Ogden from Portland in the beginning of snow season without a single friend (besides my hubby whose job transferred us here) i was suddenly struck with panic. will i be stuck watching Oprah and sobbing all winter? will i get cabin fever and gain enough upper body strength to pick up an ax? what the heck is there to do in this town? is there even anyone here? OK OK i had a moment of temporary insanity adjusting to the differences between happening Portland and seemingly quiet Ogden. But, after some good old fashioned Googling, i found quite a few surprising and exciting events going on. i also found that there was no central calendar of events, no local city paper , blog or group and pulling up all the websites daily to see if there was an event happening that day was tiresome. so here i am hoping to help you find out about the amazing events in your town.
