 FRIDAY! Great friends, Great music at 11:17 AM Yay its Friday. . .and i am stuck inside nursing my wisdom teeth. f you have wisdom teeth you know that one minute they are fine and the next minute they decide to cause intense pain. Mine are impacted in the worst way and are doing all kinds of crazy things inside my mouth... all 4 of them. Dental insurance is one of those wondrous things i just do not have. I really thought i was never going to get them out. I had applied for medical studies but was denied because i didn't meet the requirements for minimum weight and my teeth were too complicated for small clinics that only offer local anesthetic. Every time i got a quote it was disheartening, i could do one tooth at a time but it already takes all my strength not to lost it during a cleaning , even then it seems like something more pressing comes up just when we have saved enough. Yesterday when the pain flared up again and i asked my friends advice i was sent a little miracle. How simple the idea and yet i had never considered doing it before, a benefit of course! The amazingly generous and loving folks over at Uncommon grounds, now known as cafe mergot, replied to my post saying they would gladly put on a benefit event for me and i found a couple oral surgeons that have sliding scales too. Any excess that is raised i would love to donate to anyone else that needs a little help with medical bills. It had always been so hard for me to accept a helping hand . I always felt like i had to do things on my own and prove that i was strong. Recently however i went to a psychi open house and Alison Compton was talking about self worth and how we should be more open to receive as much as we give . Our friends do not help us because they think we are weak, they help us because they love us. I have never been so overwhelmed with kindness in my life, it literally brought be to tears. Only in Ogden would someone help a near stranger without hesitation. So here's to Ogden, best little city in the world. Now get out there and enjoy it! Friday- dance- learn-dance at 10:09 AM Yesterday's haircut left me feel oh so pretty I even dedicated a post to it HERE. Hunter got to play with a new friend while i got to get my hair revamped and i finally got to try uncommon grounds. Their lattes are superb and the staff is great. They even have a gelato stand in there so i bought some acai berry flavor mmm. They play indie shows there too and they having one tonight so keep reading for the details. Yesterday was almost perfect except for one thing, UTA. After my sweetie got home i decided to walk over to the grocery store and buy some veggies and fruit. I figured I'd take the bus back since it would be too heavy to carry and because it was a Thursday the bus should run at an appropriate time right? wrong. Apparently the bus stops running really early because i got the stop at 7 and waited and waited and froze and waited. Nothing. I called the number at the stop only to find there is no automated system to tell you times the bus is running and apparently they were now closed. Now i don't know why Utah decided to run buses but in other cities it is to help people get around, reduce the environmental impact of cars and provide a valuable community resource. The buses run until 3am and there are 24 hour automated call center so you can find out when your bus is coming and if your in danger the bus is free. I think UTA really needs to think about revamping its whole system. Even during daylight (the only time it runs apparently) it's never on time and more than once the driver was either rude or disregarded my stop request and made me walk way out of my way. No one wants to ride a bus if its more of a hassle than any other means of transportation. OK end rant. UTA's service is operated on a schedule determined both by budgetary limitations and ridership. The agency is not a state funded program. About 71% of UTA's operational funds are generated from local option sales tax revenues, which vary year to year. When the economy is down and people are spending less on taxable items - new cars, clothes, toys, etc. - UTA's operational budget takes a hit. Right now, the agency is down over $40M from projected. These budgetary issues have required us to make cuts in service - both in the number of routes and the number of trips. Some of that service will likely be reinstated when the economy improves. UTA also make route determinations based on efficiency and ridership. If there aren't enough riders either in a particular area or at a certain time of day, it just doesn't make sense to operate the bus. It's unclear why you were unable to reach our automated telephone system. We do have a 24-hour customer service line that provides bus schedules (801-RIDEUTA, select option four). Live agents are available during peak hours 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Finally, should you have a poor encounter while riding the service, you're encouraged to contact our customer service department by phone or online to ensure that it doesn't happen again. It's gunna be a snowy weekend! at 10:12 AMboy have i been busy lately. blogging, crafting and preparing for Christmas. It seems like I've been non stop running errands and haven't had time to just sit. luckily i woke up early today so i can write this post. So here is your weekend, or what i could gather. While your downtown be sure to ride on the Santa train and check out the Christmas village. With snow out its going to be a beautiful sight and Rovali's Ristorante Italiano presents their first annual Cookie Fair! The Cookie Fair is going to be a very festive occasion. Entry to the fair is free and there will be plenty of free samples to taste! The idea for the fair came about in a way we could show off our baked goods to the public. All of our pastries, cakes and cookies are homemade. We will have a place for our guests to decorate their own cookies! Calling all Cookie Monsters! What better way to spend the holiday season than decorating cookies and not having to clean up the mess! We will also have samples of our apple cider, hot chocolate and many other drinks from our Espresso bar! If you want to purchase cookies or any other of our available treats you can do that too with very special prices during Rovali's Cookie Fair only! Its the second annual Christmas is on Fire show featuring : Fire In The Skies- http://www.myspace.com/fits801 Fire in the Skies was formed in mid 2009, drawing influence for their name from The Seventh Circle from the epic poem ..Dante's Inferno... Not long after formation, FITS was signed to Matchless Records and released their Self Titled EP in November of that same year. Ever since that release, FITS has been touring relentlessly all over the United States building not only a loyal fan base, which they pride themselves on being closely connected with, but also solidifying a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in metalcore today. With their catchy riffs, classic solos and epic songs, this Salt Lake City, Utah-based band brings the fun back into the metal scene. Their goofy stage antics and high-energy live show have energized even the most dead of concerts in genres varying from metal to hardcore to light rock. and the five finalists from the Battle For Metal Supremacy. And for those non metal heads there is the much anticipated Scott Bennett 'The AMBASSADOR of LOVE" show at wiseguy comedy club. Scott started doing open mics in Las Vegas in 1996. When he moved back to Utah in 1997 because of a divorce he was lucky enough to hook up with a club called Laughs which is now Wiseguys where they gave him a lot of stage time. Before he knew it, he was working on the road as a feature and three years later as a headliner. Scott is a regular at the Improv in Hollywood, and plays the Loony Bins, Funny Bones, Wiseguys, etc. Scott's also done a few TV commercials and bit parts in movies. Scott was the Winner of the Rocky Mountain Laugh Off and has appeared on Blind Date and 'E's Talk Soup. So get out there, dress for the snow and have some fun. There's no reason to sit inside all day when your town is full of action! Thank you for the PATIENCE, LOVE and SUPPORT. I never knew it would be so much work but it is truly beautiful and the food is awesome! Please join me if you can. TGIF at 11:08 PM I AM EXCITED ABOUT FRIDAY! I had to use all caps to express just how excited i am. Not only am i feeling better after ingesting the magic that is delivered Chinese food but my hubby fixed my bike cart so i can take my daughter out again AND he gave me my 2nd early x-mas present A NEW DIGITAL CAMERA! yes, today is a day of CAPS and fun times. I can finally take good pictures of the events i go to so you can see them in all their glory which means i can also start doing photo reviews of local places and people too. Kick of your work shoes, shake off those work week ickies and put on something shiny because Friday is going to be Fun! This first event has been the center a lot of hype and i am so so happy to have my new camera so i can take photos to show you all its awesomeness. Need some comic relief? I got just the thing for you. Wise guys is having a comedy show featuring former sports TV anchor turned comic Paul Morrissey! Paul has appeared on Comedy Central, the HBO Comedy Festival and many times on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson! Last but certainly not least Brewskis is hosting an AMAZING show with hotel le motel &the rugs . Rock and Roll, as they call it, can be defined in so many ways. Hotel le Motel IS a rock and roll band! From tight bluesy shuffles, to straight heavy swishing cymbals, high fretting guitar solos, and walking bass lines. This band is still relatively young, but bringing more and more fans to every show. As a powerful trio all three members really know how to fill the space. Singer and guitarist Jason Sawyer has been playing music in this state for over 10 years and has toured with groups all over the west coast. Bass player Ryan Bassett is "the guy that can play everything," bringing that knowledge to his thumping and complex bass lines. Drummer Greg Daniels has also been in many different projects. Knowing when to rock and when to stay in the pocket is his forte. The high energy that is given at Hotel le Motel shows keeps onlookers intrigued and newcomers astounded. Rocking the Wasatch front, while constantly evolving, they are becoming a staple in Utah's music scene. OK don't panic i know its hard to decide which event to go to. My advice pick a few you can not live without seeing and go to all of them. Or you can send friends to the other 2 and video chat. Or you can just learn to time travel.
