 Hand made in ogden and today's events at 10:34 AM Did anyone else get to see the movie in the Ogden amphitheater last night? It was fun, and crowded, and loud but mostly fun. The kids ACTUALLY paid attention to the movie ( because it was friggin hilarious!) and at the end they all got up and danced. Have i mentioned lately that i love Ogden? Well, if you haven't gathered that from this blog then ...I LOVE OGDEN! Today i asked my blogger friend and Ogden local Liv Taylor to do a little guest blog post on finding locally made treasures here in Ogden. Here are her recommendations CHECK IT OUT! You can find her at http://livwrites.com and http://livytay.etsy.com. *************************************************************************** Last summer I was extremely pregnant, working full-time and basically just too lazy and tired to visit the Farmer's Market. This summer I'm totally hitting it up. It's just one of the many awesome things about Ogden I have yet to experience and feel like I'm missing! It opens on 25th Street July 9 (Saturdays from 8am-1pm), and you'll find all sorts of vendors ranging from fresh, organic produce to artwork and hand-made jewelry. The Market will run through September, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to browse what the local talent has to offer. Being a bit of a jewelry maker myself, I'm always looking for supplies that are unique and memorable. I find a lot on Etsy, which is another venue for artisans to sell their wares or simply the supplies needed for your own crafts. One local Ogden-based Etsy seller, Silver fir farms, Prints has vintage or modern styled prints that can even be personalized for your little one. There are also a lot of shops in Ogden that sell art/jewelry/accessories on consignment. You can find beautiful pieces Borrowed Earth Emporium (2242 Washington Blvd), Upscale Resale (2262 Washington Blvd) and ume Boutique (186 25th Street). If you'd like to take a drive through the 12th Street canyon, you can also find local painters' art at the Grey Cliff Lodge, where you can grab a bite to eat while nestled into the mountain side. I'm sure there are other great places to find unique supplies, or ready-made items for yourself and home, and that's where you come in. Friday and Saturday in ogden, utah! easter. yoga and metal at 9:11 AM It's Friday, the sun is shining and its Easter weekend can it get any better? This weekend i plan on spending it dying a ridiculous amount of eggs, eating way too many peeps and wearing frilly dresses and hunting for treasures in the yard. Yes i know at some age your supposed to just sit back and let the kiddos do their thing but i am not about to pass up an excuse to wear frill dress. OK , i will most likely let my daughter do all of the hunting considering i am the one who hides it but you cab be sure i will be dressed up. Thursday in ogden utah- music, art and foodies at 10:20 AM I had so much fun last night on my family adventure! I won tickets to see Rhythmic Circus at Peery's Egyptian Theater from the amazing Visit Ogden group. My daughter loved dancing around to the music and even made a little friend. I have never seen tap dancing before and i couldn't stop grinning, it is definitely something everyone must watch at least once. Its hard to capture the energy of tap dancing on film, live is a totally different experience and these guys and gal are amazing at what they do. I loved the jazzy/funky band they played with the the hilarious little introductions. Definitely check out Rhythmic circus! Unfortunately we had to leave a bit early though to avoid the inevitable meltdown. Hunter was getting a bit cranky and needed a change of pace. We happened to have some leftover tokens from our Staycation trip so we headed over to Fat Cats for some arcade games. Hunter immediately ran over to the spider man, her new favorite cartoon, and began squealing her sonic boom squeal of joy. After spending all out tokens on skee ball and the merry go round we let her run around pretending to play games before cashing in our tickets for spiders and monster fingers. Wednesday- sunshine, karaoke and getting crafty! at 10:14 AM It's Wednesday and the sun is shining! There is a ton to do today and its a perfect day to do be out. Today I'll be manically cleaning and making pretties for my house. My dear friend and lovely fellow mama is visiting us from Seattle ( see her tumblr here) and i like to have a clean freshly decorated house for company. Ill be opening the windows, blasting music and washing the floors pippi style. Vintage Restaurant and Tea Room at 12:35 AM Every once in a while i stumble upon something so amazing and beautiful that i actually hurt myself from smiling so much. Yesterday was one of those days and i still can not stop grinning from the experience. Vintage Restaurant and Tea room is a cozy little place nestled inside a historic building in downtown Ogden. You might have driven, walked and biked by it a thousand times and just barely missed this hidden treasure. Its well worth the hunt and once you step inside you will forever be a tea room enthusiast. After i entered the Vintage restaurant and tea room it was clear that all of my preconceived ideas about tea were all wrong. Gone are the days of Tea parties being only for Gossiping grandmothers, socialites and little girls in poofy dresses (though they can still have their fun too)! Kathy Cushman is bringing back tea time and she is doing it with style. Inside the Vintage restaurant and tea room is an impressive collection of tea pots, vintage decor and hand made beauties and a lot of the items you see are for sale at great prices too.  Traditionally, loose tea is brewed in a teapot and served in teacups This is accompanied by sandwiches, scones and usually cakes and pastries; Kathy Cushman does all of this and more.I chose the butterscotch tea and Kathy brought it out in a beautiful ceramic pot with 2 adorable tea cups. On a glass platter sat green tea, toffee and butterscotch scones still warm from the oven served with a bowl of marscapone cheese. The flavor was divine and the scones were moist and fluffy like sweet velvet. For my daughter Kathy prepared her a kids meal of my daughters choice; nutella and marshmallow finger sandwiches, pink lemonade and strawberries.As we gabbed and enjoyed our treats my daughter played in the corner in the dress up station. She was thrilled with all of the dresses (over 70 different ones), tiaras, wands and jewelry; giggling wildly at all of the pretty things to try on.  Just as we took our lat bite of scone Kathy brought out our salad and sandwiches. Cucumber, chicken/artichoke and red pepper/hummus sandwiches with a wild green salad and raspberry vinaigrette. The bread she uses is from stone ground bakery in salt lake city; it's thick and moist and perfect for finger sandwiches. We soon realize that the best part of dining in a tea house is being able to take our time. We talk, we sip tea and we savor our food; what a concept!This in itself would have been enough to fully satisfy us but Kathy tells us we aren't quite done yet, there is still dessert!I let Kathy choose for us as she is the expert after all and she brought out a tray of the most gorgeous sweets i have ever seen. , , Princess Diana's wedding cake, Sticky toffee pudding ( Kate Middleton's favorite) and a beautiful blueberry white chocolate cake. Each one was so rich and incredible; i had a hard time choosing a favorite, but i think the Apple Cinnamon Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce is my new delight.  I'd say my first traditional tea experience was a success. I came to realize that tea time is not just about tea; it's about socializing, taking time out to enjoy the moment and giving yourself time to relax. Vintage restaurant and tea room is not just about food and tea it's an experience to be enjoyed and savored. The tea room offers a unique and delicious experience for all ages with a huge selection of tea, food and desserts even men can appreciate. Wednesday at 10:34 AM As usual Wednesday is jam packed with awesomeness. I am getting over my cold and have mustered up enough energy to clean the heck out of my house. something about being sick gives me an overwhelming urge to sanitize EVERYTHING. I don't know if you know this but Pippi long-stockings is my hero and today i plan on strapping scrubbers to my boots and skating around the house. STORY TELLING FESTIVAL- 15th WSU Storytelling Festival. Listeners and tellers alike are eager to share the ancient art of oral storytelling in the three-day event, February 22-24, 2011. This anniversary festival will feature three favorite national storytellers: Willy Claflin, Bill Harley, and Bil Lepp, who will join forces in a-once-in-a- lifetime collaboration, "Williams Tell." In addition, festival and student storytellers will add their voices to the celebration. Festival events will be held at Weber State University, David Eccles Conference Center and Perry's Egyptian Theater in Ogden, Utah; at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah; and at area schools. seriously? sick again?? at 11:47 AM I don't know what happened to my immune system but this winter is kicking my butt. I have an ear infection , i cant hear anything and the pain is well...substantial. But there is always an upside to things. I got to sleep in today without a girl child pouncing on me like a rabid mountain lion, there is a ton of snow outside so i don't feel bad about not going anywhere and i have netflix so unlimited chick flicks, Mountain bike videos and that 70's show at my fingertips. Perhaps my sweetie can finally convince me to play halo with him today. . . or not. So needless to say the promo video has been postponed until march 4th. be sure to RSVP HERE because now that i have more time to prepare there is going to be some really rad goodies for all the volunteers. OK so i have to go lie back down now, my cup of coffee can not compete with the power of prescription strength ibuprofen. I need rest and as usual i decided to postpone all of my writing until Sunday. Today there is a special event for a very special man, BRUCE CARLSON. It's Friday , be prepared at 10:22 AM I had some pretty intense dreams the last couple nights- zombies, giant reptiles in the sea, tidal waves, acid rain. i don't know what it all means but i think today i am just going to stay home, drink smoothies and watch cartoons with the tot. GROW- The Red Party at 11:35 AMLast night was a momentous night exceeding my expectations and going far beyond. I was graciously gifted a ticket to The Red Party benefit for GROW, the gathering the resources of women group. Grow is an all inclusive, grass roots women’s networking community, created by the women who participate in it. Their sole purpose is to invite all women to come together to create community, have fun, meet new people and to support each other as they all share their creativity, ideas and resources with one another. The event was held at the Crowley art gallery on historic 25Th street. Everyone dressed up in their best shades of red and gathering in the gallery for music, dancing and the flow of endless wine. Revolver, a local Beatles tribute band, held nothing back when they played and they got the crowd dancing until we could no longer stand. The chef made a roast beef that can only be described as 'perfect'. Crème brûlée, lavendar cookies, fudge and other deserts were being passed around and were all incredible. In the mezzanine there was a silent auction as well as a tarot reader. I was feeling open so i tried out my luck with a little tarot and was truly moved by her intuitive reading. Everything was clear and was exactly what i needed to hear, a perfect compliment to a perfect night. This event showed me how powerful having a community of women is, and how amazing the women of Ogden are. Business owners and community members support each other, promote each other and want each other to succeed. They gather all of their knowledge, resources and skills and come together to better the community and to better themselves and each other. It really was a powerful night and i encourage all of you women of Ogden to attend the next grow meeting. I want to thank the women of GROW and all of the amazing people who made this event happen. Thank you for making Ogden the inspiring place that it is and thank you for all your hard work building this community.
