rainy day blues: fun things to do indoors at 1:24 PM

The weather has taken a turn for the worse and it looks like the icky may stick around. On days like this ( and a Monday no less) I start to feel a bit depressed about being stuck inside. Luckily i remembered about some fun activities we used to do in Portland where it would rain most of the year. So, if you're feeling a little bit of cabin fever creeping up try out these fun things to keep you entertained!

Make a clubhouse: making a clubhouse is a classic rainy day fix but just putting a sheet over chairs is so passé. Bring out your crafty side and build a cool A-frame indoor tent! Grosgrain blog features an amazingly cool A-frame tent : HERE

Skype tea party: Make your friends and family join skype ( its free!) and have a virtual tea party. dress up , make tea and log on for a date with a friend you haven't talked to in a while or your friend in town who is also stuck indoors during the rain.
Link
Indoor photo shoot: The lighting when it is raining is actually really great for indoor shoots. Pick out your favorite outfits and have a photo shoot! Start a style blog on chictopia.com and you could gain points to cash in for awesome clothes and accessories.

Cocoa and movies: Nothing is better on a rainy, gloomy day than a hot cup of cocoa. If your not feeling especially energetic make some cocoa and snuggle on the couch and have a cartoon marathon.

Get crafty: Of course there is nothing better than getting crafty and here are my favorite diy crafts that can easily be made from things you already have: banners and garlands, yarn pom pom decorations, table cloth bag and if you want to get a little more technical check out THREADBANGER for diy fashion!

Start stop animation: Gather up your little action figures and toys and your digital camera and make a mini start stop film. Take a photo and move your characters over and over until your done! check out THIS TUTORIAL on digital camera start stop animation for more.

Test your rain gear: This is one o my favorite rainy day things to do if you don't mind getting wet and probably muddy. If you have rain gear, it must be tested and test it to limit you must! hunter and i like to pile on our rain gear and go puddle hunting. We walk around the block searching for the biggest and deepest puddles ( and stop in our favorite coffee shops for cocoa) and then we splash and splash until our boots are full of water. After your done jump in a hot shower and have a bubble fight!

Invent your own aerobic: I can not be the only one that turns up the music and start exercise/dancing. It's fun, silly and a good workout on days you cant get outside. Personally my aerobics kinda looks LIKE THIS , Hunter is very hyper and this is the only style i can use to keep up with her. Your aerobics can be chill or crazy, have fun and get a workout!

Bake: Cookies and cupcakes are OK and all...but i LOVE scones! I have a bit of an obsession and i think that my recent discovery of the vintage restaurant and tea room has only fueled this obsession. My favorite food blogs, SMITTEN KITCHEN and SUGAR CRAFTER, have great scone recipes as well as lots and lots of other amazing things to try.

Have fun and don't worry, the sun will be back soon!

Tuesday in ogden utah: tattoos, puppies and metal at 10:37 AM

its Tuesday and although the clouds say otherwise its a perfect day to get out and enjoy Ogden, UT. I've been feeling under the weather lately and i think i may have finally over exerted myself enough to cause my immune system to revolt. I will be taking it easy today, watching cheesy 80's cartoons and trying to convince my body that i do indeed deserve to be well.

On another note i am looking for a place to get a new tattoo. I got some birthday tattoo dough and i have been craving another tattoo for a long time. I am excited to finally get my 'yellena art' inspired tattoo. I have a budget and i know what i want the problem is i have never gotten a tattoo in Ogden. where to go? ideas? I'd love to document my tattoo experience and blog about it so if your a tattoo artists in town send me your info so i can start making a decision!

before i tell you the couple rad events happening tonight i want to encourage you to take a look at the black dog project here in Utah. Black dogs are the last the be adopted the first to the euthanized . Black dog syndrome is a known problem among shelters, people opt out of adopting black dogs because of the stigma surrounding larger black dogs. The truth is every animal that is in a shelter needs a home no matter what size or color. They are afraid, confused and just want to be loved. So, if you are in the market for a pet and happen ti find yourself at a shelter please take a second look at that black dog, he may just be your new best friend.

Ogden city oylers game
The Oylers are having a scrimmage tonight at Friendship Park in South Ogden over by Ogden Regional Hospital. The game will start around 7:30. check out thier facebook for more! https://www.facebook.com/ogdencityoylers

"The Trials of Darryl Hunt" Free Screening
The ACLU of Utah, Peery's Egyptian Theater, and the Center for Diversity and Unity at Weber State present a free screening of "The Trials of Darryl Hunt.Spanning two decades, this powerful documentary chronicles a brutal 1984 rape/murder case in North Carolina and the wrongful conviction of then 19-year-old Darryl Hunt for that crime. Despite multiple trials and DNA testing that proved his innocence, Darryl spent nearly 20 years in prison before being fully exonerated. At once a moving human drama and a scathing social commentary,"The Trials of Darryl Hunt" reveals the insidious way racism still pervades American culture and our criminal-justice system. This chilling look at a life stolen and eventually redeemed defies our presumption that all Americans have the right to unbiased justice and exposes the need for judicial reforms to prevent other wrongful convictions. This event is free of charge and open to the public

Mojos Ogden show review 4/28/11 at 1:38 PM

Last night at Mojo's in Ogden,Utah was magic. It took a bit for the he crowd to warm up, it wasn't the usual Mojo goers and everyone was waiting for someone else to get up. I stood in front of the stage as Dirty Blonde took over and soon people gathered around until everyone was standing bobbing their heads even a little hip shake here and there. Dirty Blonde rocked it and the lead singers voice was uniquely epic. Dirty Blonde is a little bit rockabilly, a little bit blues, some indie here and there but mostly just good old fashioned rock n roll. This band is well worth a trip to see them live, a band like this is not easily forgotten.

The Dignitaries came on stage with so much energy it was near impossible not to dance around. The lead singer was a powerhouse of energy and knew exactly how to get the crown groovin'. What can only be described as reggae punk with some rock and roll thrown in for good measure, The Dignitaries are anything short of pure joy. There were a couple times that things seemed a bit off beat, more so due to either excitement or technical difficulties than performance, but overall all i wanted to do was skank and drink a mohito and by the second song no one was able to stay sitting down.

Like a step back into a time to the era of Motown , Damato's voice serenades and soothes. His lyrics are genuine with messages that empower and make you want to be better person. Damato has a truly soulful voice and he so effortlessly turns a painful experience into beautiful music that forces you to feel what he feels. By the end of the song the weight of it all lifted, and you're free. Damato is force to be reckoned with , and i am honored to have been given a glimpse of something so powerful.

Hugo came on stage like a modern cowboy, like a cold beer on a summer day. His music has a way of making you forget that anyone is around, you want to dance and sway like you're all alone. I was especially excited to see Hugo live since watching his Thai music video for his song 'Sai Lom'; It was just so beautiful and moving despite my not understanding a single word. Hugo is a mix of blues, Appalachia, soul and rock n roll creating a unique blend that is comparable to no other. Hugo's performance was really one i will never forget, effortless and magic, a perfect ending to a perfect show.

Tuesday in ogden, utah at 11:19 AM

I hope you all got out yesterday and enjoyed the last decent park day until the spring rains come back. I biked my tot around to the tree house museum and then up to liberty park where i got to break up a fight between two 7 year olds, school a mom on playground etiquette , and yell at some 5th graders who were screaming incredibly lewd things. Our park adventure was anything but relaxing, what happened to wholesome child's play? I still managed to lure hunter away from the tainted park and over to a grassy field by my house where we played with bubbles and giggled wildly. I'm going to miss these toddler years when she is all grown up.

If anyone was at the Atilla and bullet for pretty boy show id love to get a review! And that goes for any everyone, if you go to an event and love it, write about it and submit it to indie Ogden!

sprinter at 11:05 AM

Today is the perfect example of the transition from winter to spring, sprinter if you will. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and there is a thin layer of snow on the ground. It's not too cold, not too warm and nothing has bloomed quite yet here in Ogden, Utah. Spring is on the cusp, i can feel it in my bones and my skin aches for months of sunshine. Yesterday i got some lovely news. i was awarded a blog award by the lovely Trissta at "living on the chic" blog. Her blog is all about living chic on the cheap. i know we can all relate to that! she gives herself a monthly budget and then blogs about how she makes its all happen . So my picks for blog awards are these 5 incredible blogs:
Delightfully Tacky- when i need style inspiration this is where i go. She had diy tutorials, beautifully creative outfits and amazing hair! From her blog i learned how to make a faux bois fridge, that blowfish shoes is amazing and that mixing prints is a good thing. check out her blog i just know you'll love it.
The beehive blog: life with the queen- This lady is a local Utah blogger and she is very much in the know. check out this blog to learn about all the good things in Utah and to find out about all the cool people too. if there is a queen bee in Utah this lady certainly is it.
Little chief honeybee- This blogger has the best giveaways and the best hair! She is incredible creative with her wardrobe and has a super cute STORE. Check out her blog for fantastic prizes and colorful inspiration.
Poor girl eats well- As a mama on a budget with a love of gourmet blogs like these keep my dinners fresh. Poor girl on a budget teaches you how to eat like a rock star on a roadies budget. Try one of her many creative dinners and be amazed at how well you can eat with so little.
Single dad laughing- In a world of mommy bloggers a dad blog is a breath of fresh air. Single dad laughing has it all humor, the cute factor and inspirational posts. It isn't east being a single parent but single dad laughing does it with grace. I have been addicted to this salt lake city blog for a while and i just know you will be too.

Today is usually a day of relaxation but in celebration of this beautiful day here are a few things you can do

saturday- where did spring go? at 10:13 AM

Saying that i was disappointed when i woke up this morning to find that the blue skies were gone is an understatement. But its no surprise that spring is known for its erratic weather and in no time we will all be trying to escape the heat of summer. oh summer you just cant come fast enough. To get your mind of the gloom and doom of today and the knowledge of the snow storm coming tomorrow head out to one of tonight's rad shows.

MOJOS rocks Saturdays- MILAGRE of Brooklyn, NY will be performing in Ogden live@mojos. Milagre is signed by Kill Rock Stars. Local bands are OLD WORLD (formerly Matt Ben Jackson) will be offering their newly pressed CD, Descriptive, Marny Proudfit, Kat Day and more... This will be an amazing show. 7pm/7bux.

Brewskis Saturday showcase- mullet hatchet- all southern rock all the time just check out their promo video HERE

Acoustic Saturdays at the bee with brett turner- The music of Brett Turner has something most musicians only dream of. With guitar riffs that rival Tom Petty, lyrical storytelling reminiscent Sheryl Crow and Bob Dylan, and the ability to portray the rock and roll spirit of Mr. Johnny Cash himself, this talented one-man band is inventing his own genre. While touring the country promoting his debut studio album 'All Across America' Brett's infectious tunes have spread to fans young and old. As he continues to grow as a singer, songwriter, and performer, his style and stage presence have become unmatchable and all his own. 'All Across America' boasts ads on Spike TV and MTV2 and has been highly praised for its originality, and its ability to warrant the question, which song is my favorite?

Wine cellar's 7th anniversary with shaky trade-Returning for a second appearance....this band gives you all that, and then some! And, if ya missed 'em at the Mardi Gras Pirate Party...then here's another chance! Don't let the "Good Times" miss ya (again)!! They gonna fill you up....with they "funky" stuff!Cover: $5

Yay! Congrats. It's so nice to see people come together like that to support their own. Love it.

BTW, I'm trying to put together a Blogger Get-Together in Ogden, but since I'm in Logan, I don't have the slightest idea of where to do it at. I've had suggestions to do it someplace on 25th, but I don't know! Haha... Could you give me some suggestions?? I'm thinking around the second weekend in April.

Thanks!!
Trissta

Dear friends of Downtown Ogden,
WE NEED YOUR VOICE!!!
Next Tuesday, March 15Th at 6:00 p.m., in the Ogden City Building, The Ogden City Council is reviewing the contract with Downtown Ogden Inc. As you know, Downtown Ogden Inc. provides services to and is partners with the Downtown Ogden merchants in providing a myriad of events that create gathering opportunities in Ogden’s Downtown. Examples of this include Festivals and Events, Amphitheater and Street Concerts, Ogden’s First Friday Art Stroll, Ogden’s Historic Farmer’s and Art Market, Monday Night Movies, the Downtown Trolleys and Jupiter Train Rides, Historic 25Th Street Car Show, Wild West Shootout, Trail to Pioneer Days Painted Horses Exhibit, Flower Basket, Beautification and Graffiti Patrol, and many, many more. We feel that we can safely estimate a draw to these events of over 200,000 attendees annually.
The renaissance of Downtown Ogden that has gained local, state and national attention is due in part to the programs provided by Downtown Ogden, Inc. As a community, we cannot afford to have this positive momentum halted and return to the Ogden of ten years ago that has been characterized as “Dark, Dirty and Dangerous.”We ask for your participation this night to help us communicate the value of Downtown Ogden Inc – especially the value they provide to our Downtown Business District.
Please plan on attending, your voice is critical for all our success! Please forward to your friends that love Ogden.
Sincerely,
Dan Musgrave
