 Friday: Mustard, art and toys at 10:35 PM I had a fun time as usual hanging out on the Ogden outdoor adventure show. I am so excited it is the weekend again and it is now less than a week away from getting WISDOM TEETH OUT! Don't forget that if you make an appointment with Dr.Jim Ellis he will donate $100 to a local charity of my choosing. hmmm...so many choices so send me your suggestions!Also a little known interesting factoid, today is national mustard day! I have no less than 6 different types of mustard in my fridge on any given day...sweet, spicy, regular, weird i have it all. I think tomorrow i will try and make a mustard glaze for some salmon. Lucky me my older sister lives in Alaska and likes to send me packages full of amazing fresh Alaska seafood. seriously, best sister ever. On another less exciting note i am still job hunting and i have come to a point where in order to keep from feeling completely worthless i have decided to channel my energy into something a bit different. I am going to start getting creative and i think i may be filming a little resume for a company i am dying to work for. If it doesn't work at least i had fun right? Friday in Ogden utah! Family fun and Lots of music! at 9:59 AM Yay its Friday which means the weekend is tomorrow! Thursday- spring music, punk bars and BFF's at 11:06 AM Today is one of those days that i just want to laze about watching he-man with my daughter and eating pie. After working my butt off writing, blogging, over volunteering and being a full time mama to a rambunctious toddler who knows how to destroy a house in 3.2 seconds... I think i deserve a little down time. Tuesday in ogden, utah at 11:19 AMI hope you all got out yesterday and enjoyed the last decent park day until the spring rains come back. I biked my tot around to the tree house museum and then up to liberty park where i got to break up a fight between two 7 year olds, school a mom on playground etiquette , and yell at some 5th graders who were screaming incredibly lewd things. Our park adventure was anything but relaxing,what happened to wholesome child's play? I still managed to lure hunter away from the tainted park and over to a grassy field by my house where we played with bubbles and giggled wildly. I'm going to miss these toddler years when she is all grown up. If anyone was at the Atilla and bullet for pretty boy show id love to get a review! Local Spotlight- Bruce Carlson at 9:25 AM I never had the pleasure of meeting this man but i had the pleasure of hearing the great stories about him. He has certainly made his impact on Ogden and on everyone he has encountered. To some he was a dear friend, a loyal customer, an ambassador of Ogden and to others he was an urban legend. No matter how well someone knew Bruce Carlson he had a way of leaving a lasting impression. The loss of this man has created a wave across Ogden not of sadness really, but of camaraderie. Stories of how one met Bruce, his eccentric ways and funny anecdotes are spreading around and friends of Bruce are uniting in beautiful ways. It seems a fitting tribute to a man who had so much joy. A memorial party, a tour DE Bruce and a fashion show of Bruce's eccentric styles is in the works. If i can only make half the impression that Bruce has left on this community then i say that i have lived my life to its fullest potential , i can say i embraced life wholeheartedly. Here are some of the beautiful, funny, inspiring and true things that Ogden has to say about Bruce Carlson: ♥I never once heard him say anything negative or saw him in a bad mood, always positive, always. he would greet naysayers with a kind word. ♥He understood the world around him in a deep and insightful way, and always shared the love and delight he felt for those around him. ♥He would come in and tell me about his long walks on the Ogden river trail, hanging out in the sauna, his brand new toaster oven, French fashion magazines, and all sorts of random daily activities. Bruce just loved to chat and he loved company ♥The very first time I met Bruce he was wearing a toga.We were at Beatniks listening to poets and he came over to comment on my pearls. He was such a gentle man. We talked for quite a while. The next time I saw him.....HE was wearing pearls ♥When he'd pull up the bar stool next to you, there was no telling where the conversation might go...he might extol the virtues of cashmere or talk about the best website for obscure books or tell you about a film so "Indy" that it made Sundance pics look utterly mainstream. But Bruce lived in the sense of the Thoreau quote..."I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to put to rout all that was not life and not discover, when I had come to die, that I had not lived. ♥Tea in test tubes raised to precise temperatures. Tireless parade of one in second hand women's finery and jewelry from the Metropolitan Museum catalogue. Lover of opera and jazz, Greek theater enthusiast. Man about town who knew everyone but still suffered from profound loneliness. I hope when death found him he was dreaming of Paris ♥He was going to a costume party and wanted me to do his makeup....He wanted his face, shoulders and chest painted in an iridescent rainbow and that's what he got. He wrapped a white cloth around his little hips and called it a Greek god costume. ♥he was a part of the greatest time of my life. blues night wasn't right without Bruce...you could always tell if Bruce liked the band, he would do his shuffle dance. ♥I will miss talking to you about the opera, sex, & how to care and store cashmere sweaters! You were one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever known. If you know Bruce, were inspired by him or want to honor his memory i encourage you to attend his memorial Sunday the 20Th of February, 5pm at Borrowed Earth Emporium 2242 Washington Blvd. Bring Bruce's favorite dish, your favorite dish, a story, a poem, a song, a hand to hold and an open heart. Local Spotlight- Borrowed Earth Emporium at 10:43 AM Lena and Josh Morgan are a Local couple who had an honest, clear and beautiful dream. They dreamed of opening a place place where people could gather and create, eat, heal, sing, dance and just be. Though well received around town they didn’t find their voice till years later when backing vocalist, Elisa, was moved to the vocal lead. The Golden Spike Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society has taken on the effort of restoring, Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad steam locomotive #223 to an operational engine. january is going to rule at 11:23 AM January is one of those amazing months where, after being defeated by the holidays, i suddenly feel like anythings possible. Resolutions aside, having a new year allows us to start over and make amends, do this year differently. January is also usually packed full with amazing events. Monday is no day to lounge around so why don't you check out some local art at the new exhibit up at the Eccles community arts center and it's going on all month. It's gunna be a snowy weekend! at 10:12 AMboy have i been busy lately. blogging, crafting and preparing for Christmas. It seems like I've been non stop running errands and haven't had time to just sit. luckily i woke up early today so i can write this post. So here is your weekend, or what i could gather. With snow out its going to be a beautiful sight and Rovali's Ristorante Italiano presents their first annual Cookie Fair! The Cookie Fair is going to be a very festive occasion. Entry to the fair is free and there will be plenty of free samples to taste! The idea for the fair came about in a way we could show off our baked goods to the public. All of our pastries, cakes and cookies are homemade. We will have a place for our guests to decorate their own cookies! Calling all Cookie Monsters! What better way to spend the holiday season than decorating cookies and not having to clean up the mess! We will also have samples of our apple cider, hot chocolate and many other drinks from our Espresso bar! If you want to purchase cookies or any other of our available treats you can do that too with very special prices during Rovali's Cookie Fair only! We will also have gift baskets you can build yourselves and purchase, or simply place your order and we will build them for you with our awesome basket elves! Feeling a bit charitable? Its the second annual Christmas is on Fire show featuring : Fire In The Skies- http://www.myspace.com/fits801 Fire in the Skies was formed in mid 2009, drawing influence for their name from The Seventh Circle from the epic poem ..Dante's Inferno... Before he knew it, he was working on the road as a feature and three years later as a headliner. Scott is a regular at the Improv in Hollywood, and plays the Loony Bins, Funny Bones, Wiseguys, etc. Scott's also done a few TV commercials and bit parts in movies. Scott was the Winner of the Rocky Mountain Laugh Off and has appeared on Blind Date and 'E's Talk Soup. So get out there, dress for the snow and have some fun. bellydancers, comedians and choirs oh my! at 12:56 PM Thursday night around 6 head over to the Athenian for some beautiful belly dancing by the local Ogden troupe The Tiger Lily's.The Tiger Lily's have been dancing together for 2 years and got their start when one of the members took a belly dancing class and encouraged the others to dance with her. Soon they formed the troupe and had their first performance at belly break coffla at the borrowed earth emporium. The Athenian has become their regular venue where you can often find them dancing for delighted patrons. Keep and ear out for their big performance this July at the Ogden amphitheater! ******** Friday! Browning Center for the Performing Arts and if you love choirs you'll love this. Voice Male is made up of six very different individuals. John Luthy masterminded the Voice Male concept while singing with some of the guys in the Logan LDS Institute Choir. Over the years, they expanded their reach further and further, traveling to several states and to Mexico, performing over 120 songs for thousands of fans. When they are not working or singing, they are enjoying time with their supportive wives and children. The latest tally: 19 children who like to call each other Voice Male Cousins. Who knows what is in store for the future of Voice Male. It doesn't really matter, because the past has been pretty great. For more holiday cheer check out the holiday house concert featuring Marvin Payne at a story book manor. Marvin Payne is an actor, writer, song maker, and recording artist living in Alpine, Utah. He has released a dozen albums of original songs and has helped craft a half dozen widely produced plays. he has acted professionally in about fifty films and fifty plays and over a hundred audio adventures for kids. Shaky Trade was formed in Ogden, UT in 2004 by childhood friends Billy Bommer (saxes, vocals), Greg Shaw (bass), and Simon Crompton (guitar). After witnessing a Weber State University Jazz Ensemble performance, the trio approached members Chris Clemons (brass, vocals) and Michael Wong (drums), and the newly formed quintet began rehearsals in the back room of a local tile shop. The five were able to find common ground and inspiration in groups as disparate as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, and Jurassic 5, and a potent sound began to take shape. Consisting of fresh horn licks, a rock solid rhythm section, and tasty melodies, the group quickly established a fiercely loyal fanbase Ogden is full of possibilities so learn it, live it and love it. TGIF at 11:08 PM I AM EXCITED ABOUT FRIDAY! I had to use all caps to express just how excited i am. Not only am i feeling better after ingesting the magic that is delivered Chinese food but my hubby fixed my bike cart so i can take my daughter out again AND he gave me my 2nd early x-mas present A NEW DIGITAL CAMERA! yes, today is a day of CAPS and fun times. I can finally take good pictures of the events i go to so you can see them in all their glory which means i can also start doing photo reviews of local places and people too. Kick of your work shoes, shake off those work week ickies and put on something shiny because Friday is going to be Fun! This first event has been the center a lot of hype and i am so so happy to have my new camera so i can take photos to show you all its awesomeness. Need some comic relief? I got just the thing for you. Wise guys is having a comedy show featuring former sports TV anchor turned comic Paul Morrissey! Paul has appeared on Comedy Central, the HBO Comedy Festival and many times on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson! Last but certainly not least Brewskis is hosting an AMAZING show with hotel le motel &the rugs . Rock and Roll, as they call it, can be defined in so many ways. Hotel le Motel IS a rock and roll band! From tight bluesy shuffles, to straight heavy swishing cymbals, high fretting guitar solos, and walking bass lines. This band is still relatively young, but bringing more and more fans to every show. As a powerful trio all three members really know how to fill the space. Singer and guitarist Jason Sawyer has been playing music in this state for over 10 years and has toured with groups all over the west coast. Bass player Ryan Bassett is "the guy that can play everything," bringing that knowledge to his thumping and complex bass lines. Drummer Greg Daniels has also been in many different projects. Knowing when to rock and when to stay in the pocket is his forte. The high energy that is given at Hotel le Motel shows keeps onlookers intrigued and newcomers astounded. Rocking the Wasatch front, while constantly evolving, they are becoming a staple in Utah's music scene. OK don't panic i know its hard to decide which event to go to. My advice pick a few you can not live without seeing and go to all of them. Or you can send friends to the other 2 and video chat. Or you can just learn to time travel.
