 Christmas Time! at 12:32 PMChristmas Time is stressful,chaotic and amazing. So much work goes into making everything perfect, you stress over details and slave over meals just to have that often short moment when your kids, partners or friends open their presents. This year was a bit different for us since we were away from family and in a new town but we made the best of it. Thursday we went over to Mojos for their Christmas party. Honestly, i didn't get to pay much attention to the music since i had my daughter with me but i enjoyed being around all the Mojos folks and had fun just out with the family.     Christmas eve we had a few friends, who also relocated here, over for some ham and video games. I was feeling exhausted since my daughter seemed to be going at 100MPH but i had to stay up to wrap presents. My husband made white Russians and we watched the Grinch who stole x mas and fell asleep. On Christmas morning i expected my daughter to leap out of bed and run to her presents. Instead she layed in bed watching a Christmas movie and eating a candy cane. finally i convinced her to get up and open some and she tore through them like a pro and ooh-ed and aah-ed at every thing. it was what i wanted and i couldn't stop smiling.   We haven't really perfected any concrete Christmas traditions but It seems to work out great anyway. Christmas party time at 10:24 AMOnly one more day until Christmas eve and that means only 2 until the big day. I already got my Christmas presents, a new camera and a kitchen aid, so i am fully satisfied but i am just so excited about seeing my daughter on Christmas. It never gets old, and i just love seeing her enthusiastically rip open presents and hearing her ooh and aah over every little thing. The best part about this day is it's the unofficial Christmas party day. I am super exited about dressing up tonight and heading out with the family to absorb as much Christmas cheer as possible. He is a gifted songwriter that also has the deft ability to give classic tunes fresh and thoughtful treatment. In addition, Weldon plays an astonishing variety of acoustic and electric guitar styles, picks a mean mandolin, and supplies a steady back beat courtesy of his foot-operated Porch board. I saw santa riding a mountian bike. at 9:09 PMMy what a busy weekend its been. I got hella crafty, explored my neighborhood and got my daughter a puppy- swoooooon! I also redesigned the blog- what do you think? I am so excited about this upcoming week because I've been doing a bit of plotting and have started organizing an amazing giveaway! Unleash your inner metal head and rock out ! also yes, i did see Santa riding down the street on a mountain bike haha Besides chasing my toddler, wearing shiny pants and blogging i love to cook. I am saving up to go to the Weber tech culinary school just so i can learn how to make more food to eat. I am a foodie hence my love of yelp and i don't think my family has any complaints. I try and make sure i make a good home cooked meal several days out of the week and i love to experiment. i have a complete inability to follow recipes and i love to substitute and make it my own. Last night i forgot to pull out the chicken breast from the freezer so i had to come up with a plan b for my chicken Parmesan. I had some eggplant that needed to be cooked and i really wanted to make Israeli couscous so i thought id play with an old eggplant parmeseana recipe i knew. Earlier in the week i got a bunch of tomatoes from a great produce sale and made some marinara sauce with yellow peppers and tons of garlic. I grilled the eggplant with onions and added the marinara sauce and put it on top of the Israeli couscous with some fresh Parmesan cheese. It was frigging delicious, i wish i had leftovers but ALAS with a good meal there are often no leftovers. bellydancers, comedians and choirs oh my! at 12:56 PM Thursday night around 6 head over to the Athenian for some beautiful belly dancing by the local Ogden troupe The Tiger Lily's.The Tiger Lily's have been dancing together for 2 years and got their start when one of the members took a belly dancing class and encouraged the others to dance with her. Soon they formed the troupe and had their first performance at belly break coffla at the borrowed earth emporium. The Athenian has become their regular venue where you can often find them dancing for delighted patrons. Keep and ear out for their big performance this July at the Ogden amphitheater! ******** Friday! Start the Evening off right with Drinking Liberally Ogden at The Wine Cellar, Promoting democracy one pint at a time. Browning Center for the Performing Arts and if you love choirs you'll love this. Voice Male is made up of six very different individuals. John Luthy masterminded the Voice Male concept while singing with some of the guys in the Logan LDS Institute Choir. Over the years, they expanded their reach further and further, traveling to several states and to Mexico, performing over 120 songs for thousands of fans. When they are not working or singing, they are enjoying time with their supportive wives and children. The latest tally: 19 children who like to call each other Voice Male Cousins. Who knows what is in store for the future of Voice Male. It doesn't really matter, because the past has been pretty great. For more holiday cheer check out the holiday house concert featuring Marvin Payne at a story book manor. Marvin Payne is an actor, writer, song maker, and recording artist living in Alpine, Utah. He has released a dozen albums of original songs and has helped craft a half dozen widely produced plays. he has acted professionally in about fifty films and fifty plays and over a hundred audio adventures for kids. Need a good laugh? Head over for Scott Bennett 'The AMBASSADOR of LOVE" at Wiseguys Comedy Club . Scott started doing open mics in Las Vegas in 1996. When he moved back to Utah in 1997 because of a divorce he was lucky enough to hook up with a club called Laughs which is now Wiseguys where they gave him a lot of stage time. Before he knew it, he was working on the road as a feature and three years later as a headliner. Scott is a regular at the Improv in Hollywood, and plays the Loony Bins, Funny Bones, Wiseguys, etc. Scott's also done a few TV commercials and bit parts in movies. Scott was the Winner of the Rocky Mountain Laugh Off and has appeared on Blind Date and 'E's Talk Soup. End the work week with a band at kamikazes and see shaky trade perform. Shaky Trade was formed in Ogden, UT in 2004 by childhood friends Billy Bommer (saxes, vocals), Greg Shaw (bass), and Simon Crompton (guitar). Picking up their respective instruments in high school, the three played in and around the Utah scene with several local groups. After witnessing a Weber State University Jazz Ensemble performance, the trio approached members Chris Clemons (brass, vocals) and Michael Wong (drums), and the newly formed quintet began rehearsals in the back room of a local tile shop. The five were able to find common ground and inspiration in groups as disparate as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish, and Jurassic 5, and a potent sound began to take shape. Consisting of fresh horn licks, a rock solid rhythm section, and tasty melodies, the group quickly established a fiercely loyal fanbase Ogden is full of possibilities so learn it, live it and love it. The weekends over, back to work. at 9:48 PM I don't know about you but Mondays are my least favorite day. After a weekend of sleeping in and staying up late and taking my time with all my duties i find myself suddenly unprepared for all of my responsibilities come Monday. My husbands alarm goes off and my daughter wakes up wanting food and i am just not ready. Nothing would make me happier than to get to stay in jammies and watch rugrats all day with the tot but alas i have things to do. So, if your like me and your rushing to get all of your errands done , that you may have put off on Friday, before the sun goes down than i have the perfect Monday blues cure for you. After you get all of your errands done and the sun goes down head over to the Eccles community art center for twilight yoga with Jill Sjoblom. Practice yoga surrounded by soothing music, candlelight and minimal instructions, just a relaxing atmosphere. Tuition is $45 bucks but you get this yoga class every Monday until the 27Th. This class is not for beginners so call a member of the art center staff at 801-392-6935 to pre-register. Not up for all that stretching? GROW, Gathering the Resources of Women, is hosting a holiday social at the borrowed earth emporium. GROW with the Spirit of a good old fashioned holiday social and seasonal gathering of good friends, food and beverage at the Borrowed Earth Emporium. The Borrowed Earth Emporium is one of the finest local yoga studios, coffee shop and café. Both women and men are invited to partake and to give at this special GROW event. Please bring an appetizer and/or beverage of your choice to share. Join GROW for some holiday swing with good music maybe even dancing upstairs. They will also be hosting a coat and food drive that evening, so if you have a good, used coat and/or food to contribute to Utah’s food bank, please bring them with you and they will see that they are distributed to those who need them this holiday season. while your downtown be sure to check out the Christmas village!
