Oh boy was the rock n romp fun! I was swamped yesterday with work, errands, prepping for the big party and filming a mini video with Jenny Hansen but it in the end it was all worth seeing a huge crowd of kids get down to some local music! A big thanks to Kristin Guthrie Brandt, Jennifer Raitt Widdison , Ron Atencio, Mojos, nurture the creative mind, DJ Rubicon, Darma Sawyer, Brad Rizer, little cherry blossoms, vintage cupcakes and all of the other rad folks who made tonight possible. Ahh yes and now it is Wednesday, another day full of endless possibility. Life is short...and confusing...and chaotic but we have to remember to take moments out of the day to stop and pause and reflect and say "thank you universe" for all that we are given. Even in hard times there is always he possibility of greatness if we only believe. And now for your events.... man it has been a busy day..week...year really. So much has happened at it all is so exciting. I am so glad to have Chelsi as my new co-editor to help me out with blogging and keeping up with all the events. This Friday i will be meeting with more potential writers for indie Ogden and by the end of the month the new site will be up and running! I think you all are going to love what i have in store and i can not wait to introduce you to the new crew! Work has been kicking my butt...well, legs. biking 6 miles a day and then some more to run errands and keeping up with my blog and my house and meetings WHEW its been crazy but oh so much fun. Wednesday: karaoke, watermelons and indie films! at 7:12 PM It's National watermelon day! SO head over to the oasis community garden for their weekly mini farmers market and get one! As usual on Wednesday there is so much happening that i LITERALLY could not pack it all into one post so be sure to check out the calendar to make sure you are maximizing the awesomeness of this Wednesday! I can not believe after all of these years of pain i will FINALLY be getting my wisdom teeth out and i am so grateful that i get that have a rad dentist like DR.Jim Ellis. Also he is doing an amazing thing: for every person that schedules and appointment and says "indie Ogden" or " Mikaela Shafer" sent them he will donate $100 to a charity of my choice! Wednesday: karaoke, indie shows and free events at 9:34 AM Yup its Wednesday again my favorite day of the week and only 2 days until Afternoon Tea at Ben Lomond Suites AND only one day until the Windsor drive show at mojos!!! I am so excited The ben lomond suites asked me to come and even more excited to dress up and take pictures! As you can see from all the exclamation points i am still coming down from a sugar high from all the pie i ate last night! The Ogden rad mamas organizing a super awesome vent called "Rock N Romp", a family friendly show played at lower decibels so both parent and kids can enjoy their fave local bands. We are looking for 2 more fun, danceable bands to play plus local businesses to donate things for the raffle and volunteers as well. Back to the daily grind...of AWESOME! at 9:21 PM Well, the three day weekend is over and its time for us all to go back to the daily grind. Luckily Ogden is super awesome and there is always something fun to do to cheer ya up. I cant say that i got out much this weekend; the first part was spent taking care of my sick daughter and husband and the second part was spent being sick. However, it rained the ENTIRE weekend anyway so i wasn't missing much. Being sick may not have been so bad because i managed to make quite a few new friends and these friends are super awesome and will be featured on upcoming blog posts and giveaways! As you may have seen on indie Ogden's facebook one of those super awesome friends is a vinyl decal company (http://beepart.com/) that will be doing a giveaway soon. I don't usually host out of town giveaways but this company is fantastic. It is an artist owned and run company that gives other artists a platform for featuring their art in vinyl form! Other friends include local artists and crafters whose work i will be featuring during the Ogden arts festival and you can have a chance to win some of their fantastic work too. I even had a chance to write 2 new articles on sloucher so check it out! I will be getting the print edition in the mail soon and will try and get some of those out to you guys. Friday Friday Friday! fun! fun! fun! at 4:53 PM Today I'm blogging late because i had an incredible day biking to the hot springs and splashing around and then hiking to a picnic and biking along the river. I got tan and ate a ton of salsa and donuts and pretty much had the best day EVER! Friday- snow in spring and rock n roll at 10:49 AM So remember how it was spring and we were all wearing sandals and t shirts and playing at the park? yeah, that's done now, nature decided it's winter again. Its like giving someone a chocolate Sunday , letting them take a bit and then throwing a pile a dirt on top. It's just rude and unnecessary. Now i love Ogden and i have to admit that the snow does make things look incredibly beautiful but i have a pile of sundresses that are just waiting patiently to be worn and all i want to do lately is sit in the grass and eat trail mix. Is that so much to ask for? W Until nature decides to make it spring again ill guess we will just have to look at this as an opportunity to make out very last (please be the last) snowman of the season. it will be a small, muddy and probably sad looking snowman but it will be a snowman none the less. We could also make our last snow angel, have our last snowball fight and sled our last hill. Spring will be here before we know it ...right? right? Today is Friday which means there are so many things happening i think my head may explode. Tuesday in ogden, utah at 11:19 AMI hope you all got out yesterday and enjoyed the last decent park day until the spring rains come back. I biked my tot around to the tree house museum and then up to liberty park where i got to break up a fight between two 7 year olds, school a mom on playground etiquette , and yell at some 5th graders who were screaming incredibly lewd things. Our park adventure was anything but relaxing,what happened to wholesome child's play? I still managed to lure hunter away from the tainted park and over to a grassy field by my house where we played with bubbles and giggled wildly. I'm going to miss these toddler years when she is all grown up. If anyone was at the Atilla and bullet for pretty boy show id love to get a review! The power of community! at 11:26 AM What an amazing night. how refreshing it was to see a room packed full of people in a municipal building. I have to admit it was by far they longest meeting i have ever been to but damn was it worth it. With great excitement and pride i am happy to say that the city council has unanimously overturned they mayors veto and passed they anti-discrimination ordinance protecting gay and transgendered people fro discrimination is the workplace and in housing. A big thank you to PRIDE in Utah and everyone who spread they word about this very important issue and rallied together to support our community. A big thank you to the city council members for all of your hard work and for sticking through this meeting and making the right and just decision. Be sure to write they city council and thank them for passing this monumental ordinance and making Ogden the 12th city in Utah to pass the anti-discrimination ordinance. It is times like these that i feel thankful for being an Ogden resident, you have truly made me proud to call Ogden my home.Today we should all celebrate, celebrate life and freedom, celebrate Ogden and friends, celebrate the power of community. ♥Brewskis- open mic night- get up on stage and strut your stuff!
