cinco de mayo in ogden utah at 10:08 AM

today is the day we celebrate.....wait, what is it we celebrate today? The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American civil war. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. For the most part people of non Mexican decent use Cinco De Mayo as an exuce to celebrate for no reason, and there is nothing wrong with that! so what is there to do on Cinco De Mayo in Ogden , Utah? plenty!

Don't forget! it is also national day of prayer and midwives day!

Picture It In Ruins at 9:26 AM

Coming on the 19th of march is going to be an epic day of music in Ogden. Picture it in ruins is coming to play they metal matinee at the basement. It's an early show At one but don't let that stop you from witnessing the magic that is ' picture it in ruins'. Brutal thrashing and melodic harmonies make picture it in ruins and beautiful mix. You will be blown away by this band and leave wondering why you haven't listened to them sooner. I got they chance to do a little pre-show interview with one of they band members so check it gout and start getting geared up for "THE METAL MATINEE" at The Basement.

all questions answered by Cody Stevenson

introduce the band members and the instruments they play. Eddie Kopfman- guitar, Chris Chamber- guitar, Lucas Friebel- vocals, Caleb Stevenson- drums, Cody Stevenson- bass
What made you want to play music? i guess just growing up listening to music really. Seemed like a good use of time.
how did you meet? We all meet in school, just at different times.
how was the band formed? Caleb, Ed, and I had been playing together already for some time and wanted to expand our sound. We added Luke to vocals right before a summer tour one year, and we asked Chris to come just to hang out. He learned our songs on the way to Arizona and he's been with us ever since.
your band has been together for a long time, how has your music evolved? Well, our music had evolved just as our tastes in music have changed. Started out as a simple punk band, and grew gradually into what we are today.
what are your musical influences? anything and everything
describe picture it in ruins. Picture it in ruins is everything we want to hear in music. I'm sure we resemble other bands, but we try to be original as we can. People say we sound like Between The Buried And Me with our own spin on it.
Your touring with antagonist, how has the tour been so far? Hasn't started yet, but i have a good feeling about it. The guys in Antagonist are awesome, and we always like playing shows with them.
what is the music scene like in green river, wy? Honestly not much of a scene. There are concerts here and there, but it's not like bigger cities. Tours don't come through, so kids usually drive to SLC if they want to see bands play.
coming from a small town how do you keep the buzz around your band alive? We use the Internet a lot, and we've been lucky enough to be featured on blog pages. We don't tour a ton, so it's important to try and keep people from forgetting about us.
There has been quite a few articles online raving about Picture it in ruins, any talks of being signed soon? Not really. Those articles have been great, and we gained quite a few fans from them, no signs of that right now.
What label would you love to be on? Prosthetic Records would be nice, or Metal Blade. Lots of talented bands on both labels
What band would you love to tour with? Love to tour with any band, but Protest The Hero would be awesome, as well as Between The Buried And Me.
Any suggestions on lessser known bands you think we should hear? SLC local band Dethrone The Sovereign are a very talented group, also Fallujah from San Francisco, CA
Are you planning on doing anything special while in ogden, utah? Hopefully just seeing some familiar faces and friends from the area.
final words? Thanks for taking an interest in the music we create!

It's gunna be a snowy weekend! at 10:12 AM

boy have i been busy lately. blogging, crafting and preparing for Christmas. It seems like I've been non stop running errands and haven't had time to just sit. luckily i woke up early today so i can write this post. So here is your weekend, or what i could gather. I'm always on the lookout for  events so if you have one you want me to mention just send me a message at bryanandmikki@gmail.com!

X-mas is almost here and there is only a little bit more time to get a present so  head on down to the borrowed earth emporium   on Saturday and Sunday and check out the local artisans in attendance every weekend to sell their wares during winter. buy local! family activities, yoga, coffee and food.

While your downtown  be sure to ride on the Santa train and check out the Christmas village. With snow out its going to be a beautiful sight and Rovali's Ristorante Italiano presents their first annual Cookie Fair!
The Cookie Fair is going to be a very festive occasion. Entry to the fair is free and there will be plenty of free samples to taste! The idea for the fair came about in a way we could show off our baked goods to the public. All of our pastries, cakes and cookies are homemade. We will have a place for our guests to decorate their own cookies! Calling all Cookie Monsters!
What better way to spend the holiday season than decorating cookies and not having to clean up the mess! We will also have samples of our apple cider, hot chocolate and many other drinks from our Espresso bar! If you want to purchase cookies or any other of our available treats you can do that too with very special prices during Rovali's Cookie Fair only! We will also have gift baskets you can build yourselves and purchase, or
simply place your order and we will build them for you with our awesome
basket elves!

Feeling a bit charitable? Uncommon Grounds Cafe' & Coffee House will be hosting a charity concert for Angel Tree on Saturday December 18th from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. Representatives from The Salvation Army and Angel Tree will be here to accept donations for this needy cause. This year they have not even come close to what they need for the children waiting to be adopted. Please stop by and donate. The admission to this great event is an unwrapped toy or winter clothing article. Mountain hymns will be performing alongside 3 other bands.

I am very excited to go to the basements show tonight! Its the second annual Christmas is on Fire show featuring :
Fire In The Skies- http://www.myspace.com/fits801  Fire in the Skies was formed in mid 2009, drawing influence for their name from The Seventh Circle from the epic poem ..Dante's Inferno... Not long after formation, FITS was signed to Matchless Records and released their Self Titled EP in November of that same year. Ever since that release, FITS has been touring relentlessly all over the United States building not only a loyal fan base, which they pride themselves on being closely connected with, but also solidifying a reputation as one of the hardest working bands in metalcore today.
Breaux- http://www.myspace.com/breauxrock The band is, simply put, dirty southern party metal. With their catchy riffs, classic solos and epic songs, this Salt Lake City, Utah-based band brings the fun back into the metal scene. Their goofy stage antics and high-energy live show have energized even the most dead of concerts in genres varying from metal to hardcore to light rock.
and the five finalists from the Battle For Metal Supremacy.

And for those non metal heads there is the much anticipated Scott Bennett 'The AMBASSADOR of LOVE" show at wiseguy comedy club. Scott started doing open mics in Las Vegas in 1996. When he moved back to Utah in 1997 because of a divorce he was lucky enough to hook up with a club called Laughs which is now Wiseguys where they gave him a lot of stage time. Before he knew it, he was working on the road as a feature and three years later as a headliner. Scott is a regular at the Improv in Hollywood, and plays the Loony Bins, Funny Bones, Wiseguys, etc. Scott's also done a few TV commercials and bit parts in movies. Scott was the Winner of the Rocky Mountain Laugh Off and has appeared on Blind Date and 'E's Talk Soup.

So get out there,  dress for the snow and have some fun. There's no reason to sit inside all day when your town is full of action!
