 Wednesday: awesomeness plus giveaways at 10:16 AM It Wednesday and the birds are a chirpin', the kiddos jumping on her bed and some how my house is not a disaster after leaving the boy and girl child unattended last night. yeah, its gunna be a good day. So where did i go last night? Oh, only on an adventure of EPIC proportions! A last minute decision sent me and my good pal Chelsi on a little drive to SLC to a yelp event....or so we thought. Little ride PSSHHH that's for squares! Little did we know we were going on a friggin ROAD TRIP! We zigzagged up a canyon, backtracked because we almost ran out of gas, went back into the canyon, looked a moose square in the eyes and terrified him, saw Bambi. Finally, We made it to the Sun and moon cafe in emigration canyon unharmed. We got there late of course ( well worth staring a moose in the eyes) but still got to hang out with some nice foodies, try some yummy appetizers, hear some grade A blues and try some EPIC beer. No really its called EPIC beer and it is...EPIC. Best of all it was all FREE! Some say being late to an even and missing all the food and not winning the raffle and driving for EVER wouldn't be worth but we say NAY ( yeah we do because were old school like that) adventures are always fun with a friend. When you are in a car for what seems like days , lost in a canyon on an empty gas tank you get to bond; you open up your heart and soul and on the ride home you get stop in in and out burger for a milkshake. True story. Alright on with the days event: Dinosaur park adventures in art: Join us by participating in our summer ART CLASS program at the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park. Adventures in Art, is a two-hour class, once a week, for four weeks. Each week, new and fun activities will be presented. You will have the opportunity to work with clay, chalk, weaving, and many other activities that will be fun and educational. Lunch will be provided  Free show in the park: Bring your lunch and enjoy the sunshine and music at the Municipal park for Tunes at Noon. Wednesdays from June 15th -- August 17th. Thursday: karaoke. open mic and schmoozing at 9:17 AM Yesterday was awesome. I went in a picnic at municipal park and watched Dan Weldon sing some songs, i got all my errands done by bike ( is there any other way when its sunny out?) , i ate guava Popsicles in my yard and i ended the night at the sand trap singing karaoke with friends. yeah, summer pwns winter. This week is turning out to be quite amazing and i am excited for all the things coming up. Tonight there is a ton going on Tomorrow is the fire in the skies CD release party and lots of other rad events and Saturday i am going on the weekend show again and you will be kept plenty busy with all of the shows and events happening that weekend. Oh whats that?? You've never heard the weekend show? well, i most certainly WILL tell you about it. The weekend show is a Weber FM radio delight. Featuring local music and some lesser known rad jams the weekend show will have you laughing and dancing in no time. Hosted by Jared Christensen, hoagie bear, DJ AJ and tons of fun local guests too. Monday : recaps, mountains and garden parties at 10:08 AM OH what a wonderful weekend! I went to the Ogden music festival, met some Ogden rad mamas and got surprise visit from my in-laws. I am sunburned, stuffed full of good food and my feet feel like i ran a marathon...yeah life is good and it finally feels like SUMMER! The Ogden music festival changed locations and was held in North Fork, UT instead. The views were amazing and the music was beautiful. I was a volunteer at the kids booth which was fun and at time complete chaos. I suppose it meant the kids were having fun if at the end of the day the booth looked like a Technicolor war zone, right?  I wish i could have stayed longer but i had to get back home to get some work done. Saturday was a day of rest and hospital visits when my daughter got a deep cut inside her nose (long story) and needed to get some liquid stitches. Luckily, it was nothing a lollipop couldn't fix. Sunday was a sweltering 84 degrees out and the girl child and i went off to Lions club park for some Ogden Rad Mamas fun. The poor kids were all too hot to play and huddled at the bottom of the twisty slide in the only patch of shade. We somehow managed to get them all to play for a whole 2 hours before they started to look like they were melting. A perfect end to a perfect weekend can not be had without a dinner at roosters. My in-laws have never been to Ogden, UT and we wanted to take them to our favorite place for dinner, of course they loved it too. After getting home the food ITIS kicked in and i passed out for the night. Now it's Monday...back to work but that doesn't mean back to boring. The sun isn't going anywhere and there is plenty to do here in beautiful Ogden, Utah! tonight check out GROW'S garden party: Join us for some fun, feasting and great socializing for women and men at our June Garden Party. The party will be held in the beautiful yard of Matt and Dayna Balls where we held it last year. Last year's turn out was terrific and all had a great time. This year, our featured guest will be Deja, who will be offering her unique talent and teaching all those who are interested in learning some African dance, beginning about 7:00 pm. We will also be joined by Sharon Sweeten, Ogden's finest elemental intuitive, offering short, personal fairy readings and Harmony who will be there with her henna and glitter body paint for those who are interested. There is no charge for these services but heart felt donations are always welcome. The party will be a potluck, so bring something to share and BYOB if you would like to drink alcoholic beverages. As a special treat, the Lost Texan will be bringing by some kind of smoked meat in their very own bar-BBQ sauce for all of us to get a good taste of what they do. Sales proceeds from this exhibit will go to community outreach programs sponsored by Ogden Unitarians congregation *Eccles community arts center: paintings of Travis Crowther and Keith Dabb and the ceramics of Richard Barker during June. The work of Ogden artist, Debra Marin will be featured in the Carriage House Gallery. Friday! tea parties, art strolls and local music! at 9:20 AM It's Friday! Even though, as a stay at home mom, nothing really changes on the weekend i still get excited about Fridays. Today is especially thrilling with the temperature rising and it being mothers day weekend i just know its going to be an amazing . Today i am going to try and spend as much time in the sun as possible and then take my daughter to first Friday art stroll to check out some local art and of course buy some treats from downtown! I haven't been downtown in a while and this will be my FIRST, first Friday. I have no idea why I've waited so long to attend one but i hear this one is going to be great! Tomorrow i am going to be be on the radio at 88.1FM @ Weber State at 1pm to talk about Indie Ogden and upcoming local events. Thursday in ogden utah: hugo, abba and giving back! at 11:49 AM Last night i hosted a swap party with some of my friends and it was so much fun we decided to make it a regular event so keep an eye out for future invites! Swap parties are a fun way to get new clothes, meet new people and give to a local charity. You have friends around you can ask for advice when you try on new clothes and of course a little dance party might break out. Last night we piled our clothes up and picked out some new outfits for ourselves (even the little ones got new duds) and the rest we donated to the YCC of Ogden and their thrift store. It felt good to clean out my closet and get rid of some things that were beautiful but just not getting any love and get some new outfits in return. But Even more, it felt good to give back to the community. According to their website-"YCC of Ogden is a non-profit community based organization that assists victims of domestic violence, rape, and economic hardship. The YCC provides shelter, food and clothing assistance, and rape recovery services at no cost.The YCC thrift store is 100% community donation based and redistributes the majority of its inventory back to the community. Through the thrift store individuals are provided with clothing at no cost. Household items are used to furnish our transitional housing apartments and shelter." Friday and Saturday in ogden, utah! easter. yoga and metal at 9:11 AM It's Friday, the sun is shining and its Easter weekend can it get any better? This weekend i plan on spending it dying a ridiculous amount of eggs, eating way too many peeps and wearing frilly dresses and hunting for treasures in the yard. Yes i know at some age your supposed to just sit back and let the kiddos do their thing but i am not about to pass up an excuse to wear frill dress. OK , i will most likely let my daughter do all of the hunting considering i am the one who hides it but you cab be sure i will be dressed up. Thursday in ogden utah- music, art and foodies at 10:20 AM I had so much fun last night on my family adventure! I won tickets to see Rhythmic Circus at Peery's Egyptian Theater from the amazing Visit Ogden group. My daughter loved dancing around to the music and even made a little friend. I have never seen tap dancing before and i couldn't stop grinning, it is definitely something everyone must watch at least once. Its hard to capture the energy of tap dancing on film, live is a totally different experience and these guys and gal are amazing at what they do. I loved the jazzy/funky band they played with the the hilarious little introductions. Definitely check out Rhythmic circus! Unfortunately we had to leave a bit early though to avoid the inevitable meltdown. Hunter was getting a bit cranky and needed a change of pace. We happened to have some leftover tokens from our Staycation trip so we headed over to Fat Cats for some arcade games. Hunter immediately ran over to the spider man, her new favorite cartoon, and began squealing her sonic boom squeal of joy. After spending all out tokens on skee ball and the merry go round we let her run around pretending to play games before cashing in our tickets for spiders and monster fingers. Tuesday in ogden, utah at 10:04 AM Oh what a lovely day! There a tiny bit of sun coming out and no rain...yet. What a perfect day to take a stroll around your neighborhood and perhaps meet someone new. Last night i was feeling especially domestic and baked a lovely strawberry lemon pie. I forgot how therapeutic pie baking can be. Kneading the dough, rolling it out and gently lacing the crust it relaxes me and the outcome is always a reward. Local Spotlight: Cloud 9 smoke shop at 12:03 AM If you need hookah and smoking supplies there is a great place to go in Ogden, Utah and that's Cloud 9. I went there yesterday to check out hookah and find some fruity sheesha for my hookah at home. The workers there are incredibly friendly and made me feel like i was visiting an old friend. Cloud 9 has a huge selection of sheesha, incense and smoke supplies. The store smells like a fruit basket from all the flavors! I tried out some blueberry because it smelled like a smoothie and it came in fancy little tin. I have to say I'm eyeing up the pink Ed Hardy hookah and may have to turn my dressing room into a ladies lounge. I admit i don't use a hookah very often, i don't even smoke cigarettes. Every once in a while its just fun to put on belly dance music, eat too much hummus and try out the old hookah. Nargile : A Puff on History (reprinted from the Turkish Daily News 3/3/97) But it was in Turkey that the nargile completed its revolution, and did not change its style for the last few hundred years. The nargile became a very important part of the coffee shop culture, finding its popularity in Turkey around the time of Murat the IV'th, 1623-40.The joy that the smokers received from this very simple yet beautiful smoking apparatus was unbelievable. Rules were created even for lighting the pipe, and if a professional smoker saw anyone lighting it the incorrect way, the culprit would be told in no uncertain term " Do yourself and the sacred nargile a favor and put out the coals by blowing into it. "The nargile itself consists of 4 pieces which are as follows: Agizlik (mouthpiece), Lüle (the top of the nargile), Marpuç (the tube) and the Gövde (the body of the pipe which is filled with water). All pieces of the pipe were produced by special craftsmen, who were named after the pece they produced. Even today, the areas where these craftsmen used to concentrate are called by these names, such as "Marpuççular."Lüles were generally produced in Tophane by Lule makers and the govde's (bottles) were manufactured in Beykoz. These govde's were a unique example of Turkish handcraft and were decorated with floral motifs. Some were made out of silver or crystal. The agizlik's (mouthpieces) were generally carved out of the top of quality amber, because people in those days believed that amber was not the because people in those days believed that amber was not the carrier of germs. Not all tobaccos qualified for usage in the nargile, and only the dark tobacco imported from Iran found favor with the nargile user. This toabcco was washed several times before use as it was extremely strong. Only oak charcoal was used to be placed on the top of the tobacco. Some professional nargile smokers used certain fruit, like sour cherries or grapes in their govde just to enjoy the motion it created in the water. Other people enjoyed adding pomegranate juice or rose oil to their water for added flavor. The nargile smoker hated anyone lighting their cigarettes on their nargile fire because they felt it disturbed the rhythm of the burning charcoal. The nargile was so popular and fashionable with the elite ladies of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, that it became the in thing to be photographed with a nargile. If you wanted to be the hostess with the mostest the nargile was a must for popular afternoon tea and intellectual gatherings. Unfortunately like most wonderful things from the past, the nargile suffered a decline with the availability of the cigarettes. But still today, one is able to find a special type of smoker that would only find their enjoyment from smoking the nargile. *** As with all tobacco products you should use it in moderation, be informed of risks and ALWAYS be of legal age.
