Pioneer Day! at 12:00 AM

Its pioneer day and my very first one at that. I have to admit i have no idea what pioneer day was until about a week ago. I assumed it was part of the whole pioneer days created to attract visitors to Ogden, however i had no idea it was an ACTUAL holiday. Pioneer day commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.
Given that i am not Mormon i really have no reason to celebrate this day but heck any reason to have a parade and fireworks and rodeos and so much more and i am all for it. Unfortunately i Will have to miss out on the pioneer day parade though but on the upside i will be at the office of Jim Ellis my favorite Ogden dentist. I have an appointment for x-rays and such to see just what is happening inside my mouth; Its a war in there. Jim Ellis was nice enough to help me out when i needed a dentist and give me a fabulous rate on wisdom teeth removal. He has some informative and sometimes funny tweets about dentistry you should definitely check out.
I hope everyone has a splendid day enjoying the festivities! Be safe , have fun and most of all LOVE Ogden because we do live in one of the best cities in America! Oh yeah! Don't forget to enter Indie Ogden's contest for a chance to win a staycation at the beautiful Ben Lomond suites!

Monday:recaps, movies, art and whoopie at 9:09 AM

What a wonderful weekend it was! I had so much fun making cheese, attending some pioneer events (i can't wait for more) and celebrating a friends big 30th. If you missed Saturdays Pioneer days events don't worry, there are events ALL MONTH LONG ! Check out the pioneer days website to see whats in store.

Friday i attended a cheese making class at the union station fermentation which was awesome! We learned how to make mozzarella and ricotta from home ( it is quick and easy!) and we got to try and take home a ton of beehive cheese and local sheep cheese. For only $20 bucks this class is definitely worth it and i am so excited to say that i will be teaching a kombucha class soon so stay tuned! You can also purchase a hard or soft cheese kit for only $25 bucks or so that includes EVERYTHING you need (except milk) for 30 batches of cheese.

Saturday hunter and i biked over to oasis community garden for the rummage sale and pancake breakfast hosted by the junior league of Ogden. Hunter made a new friend and we heard some great tunes too. After, we biked downtown for the wild west shoot out, train rides, horse rides, stage coach rides, farmers market, petting zoo and more. I got old fashioned popping corn (that you have to take off the cob first) from Roberts family farms which was amazing! I also got some basil and pink lemonade and hunter donated her $1 allowance to big brother/big sister of Utah. For sweet treats we got one of vintage cupcakes "pink ladies" and a scoop of ice cream from Trudy's poppin' johnny ice cream.

After all the fun i was exhausted but i still had to go home and shower before baking some Mac n cheese with squash and peppers and 6 different cheeses for a friends 30th birthday. It was nice to relax after a busy day but i wasn't done yet! Midway between the party i got to duck out and attend the whoopie girl art unveiling at the imagine ballet theater. Seeing the rodeo queens and all the girls dressed at whoopie girls was fantastic, i love costumes. We enjoyed dinner and great conversation and they even had little cake pops that looked like cowgirl hats. After the meal imagine ballet dancers entertained us with a beautiful and fun ballet tribute to the whoopie girl.

On my way back to the party i got caught in a thunderstorm but it felt nice to not be hot and sweaty. I got to hang out some more and watch my daughter chase peoples dogs around and eat cake. Finally the night was over and i slept like i hLinkave never slept before. I hope everyone else had a great weekend too and if you didn't well, there's always next weekend.Until then get out there and make today the best day you can!

Tuesday! Go on an adventure! at 9:55 AM

Ooh there are so many fun things coming up this weekend i can hardly wait. The Ogden Arts festival, the 5k for women of the Congo, the rock a belly deluxe, and lots of really really rad shows. There aren't many events happening today but it is a perfect day for a hike, a park picnic or a bike ride. here are my fave places to go for outdoor fun:

Taylor canyon: easy accessible and a great hike for families. This trail has great views of Ogden and nice places to picnic.

Ogden river parkway: bike rides are never boring on Ogden river parkway. The beautiful river and mountain views and parks and benches along the way make this the perfect spot for beginner bikers and for the kiddos. Things you can find along this amazing trail: Lorin farr park, El monte golf course, dinosaur park, botanical gardens, king fisher aviary, kayak park, big dee sports park, bingham cyclery and more!

dinosaur park: located off Ogden river parkway dinosaur park is a ton of fun for the Dino lover. You can walk around exploring and learning about different prehistoric creatures and play on their playground too. In the summer there are food stands when you get hungry and lots of cool events too.

liberty park: this park is a great multi-purpose park. threes a kickball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, a giant field, picnic ares and a playground. The playground is safe and has a cool rock climbing area.

Mount Ogden park: This is a giant park with a lot of space to play and a really really cool playground. there are also really fun hiking trails but more for adults than kids. The views are breathtaking and the hike is challenging and fun.

lions club park: A secluded park away from roads makes it easier to relax while your kiddo darts around. There is a huge field for playing games and a sheltered picnic area and BBQ too. This park has sand in it so bring shovels!

So what are you waiting for? Go on an adventure and have fun!

Monday : recaps, mountains and garden parties at 10:08 AM

OH what a wonderful weekend! I went to the Ogden music festival, met some Ogden rad mamas and got surprise visit from my in-laws. I am sunburned, stuffed full of good food and my feet feel like i ran a marathon...yeah life is good and it finally feels like SUMMER!

The Ogden music festival changed locations and was held in North Fork, UT instead. The views were amazing and the music was beautiful. I was a volunteer at the kids booth which was fun and at time complete chaos. I suppose it meant the kids were having fun if at the end of the day the booth looked like a Technicolor war zone, right?

I wish i could have stayed longer but i had to get back home to get some work done. Saturday was a day of rest and hospital visits when my daughter got a deep cut inside her nose (long story) and needed to get some liquid stitches. Luckily, it was nothing a lollipop couldn't fix.

Sunday was a sweltering 84 degrees out and the girl child and i went off to Lions club park for some Ogden Rad Mamas fun. The poor kids were all too hot to play and huddled at the bottom of the twisty slide in the only patch of shade. We somehow managed to get them all to play for a whole 2 hours before they started to look like they were melting.

A perfect end to a perfect weekend can not be had without a dinner at roosters. My in-laws have never been to Ogden, UT and we wanted to take them to our favorite place for dinner, of course they loved it too. After getting home the food ITIS kicked in and i passed out for the night.

Now it's Monday...back to work but that doesn't mean back to boring. The sun isn't going anywhere and there is plenty to do here in beautiful Ogden, Utah!
tonight check out GROW'S garden party:
Join us for some fun, feasting and great socializing for women and men at our June Garden Party. The party will be held in the beautiful yard of Matt and Dayna Balls where we held it last year. Last year's turn out was terrific and all had a great time.
This year, our featured guest will be Deja, who will be offering her unique talent and teaching all those who are interested in learning some African dance, beginning about 7:00 pm. We will also be joined by Sharon Sweeten, Ogden's finest elemental intuitive, offering short, personal fairy readings and Harmony who will be there with her henna and glitter body paint for those who are interested. There is no charge for these services but heart felt donations are always welcome.
The party will be a potluck, so bring something to share and BYOB if you would like to drink alcoholic beverages. As a special treat, the Lost Texan will be bringing by some kind of smoked meat in their very own bar-BBQ sauce for all of us to get a good taste of what they do. For more information on the Lost Texan, go to ww.losttexanbbq.com It should be really fun party and we hope to see you there.
check out GROWS facebook group for directions!

Also today there are a lot of art being displayed around town check out these few places to see it:
*Borrowed earth emporium: Various local artists as well as jewelry, lavender and even bikes on display.
*Universe city gallery:Painter Karen Thurber and wood artist William Hackett will be among the featured artists during the month of June. Sales proceeds from this exhibit will go to community outreach programs sponsored by Ogden Unitarians congregation
