 Winterfest, date night and too much chocolate at 1:12 AM This has been a wonderful weekend, the best weekend ever...ever. I may have over exerted myself but it was oh so worth it. Friday morning i ran for the first time in months. A mama friend and i ventured out early for our first 'run', which was really more of a trot walk and gab session. It was quite exhausting but felt so good. I came home with a ton of energy so the girl child and i went adventuring to winterfest. We took the bus instead of biking as usual and came to realize that biking is so much better. The bus was detoured and dropped us off much too far away from downtown and on the way home we had to walk 8 blocks to get to the non-existent detour stop only to have 2 buses pass and not stop. we called the papa and he carted my bike over and we biked home with ease. I will never betray you again dear bike and bike cart, you are so much better than a bus. Winterest was lovely and slushy and the weather was perfect. We stopped into little cherry blossoms and gabbed with the owner Carey who is always a pleasure to talk to. Since it was a Friday Carey had adorable little cupcake bites from vintage cupcakes with hot pink frosting and teeny little edible pearls, yum! The girl child and i watched the toboggans attempt to race down the hill but the snow was not quite cooperating. A nice lady tossing Hershey's candy gave Hunter the ENTIRE container. sigh... there was no way to take it all away so there will be chocolate rations and late night mommy snacks for months. To end this day of childhood bliss hunter got to hug a coca cola bear and i do believe she thought he was real because later she said ' He was a good bear mommy, he didn't eat me'. I hope you all got a chance to check out winterfest; though the weather was a bit warm making it all a bit slushy it was still oh so fun. Saturday I lounged around in my jammies for as long as possible trying to recover from the exhaustion of the previous day . My legs felt brutalized and i woke up much to early for a Saturday. I decided to take it easy all day except for an important Newman-O run. Thanks to the mamas childcare exchange group I'm in my sweetie and i were able to go on a real date. Together. With out the babe. AT NIGHT! And thanks to a lovely lady at SLC city weekly i was generously gifted 2 tickets to see "life in a day" at Peery's Egyptian Theater. We took our seats in the beautifully decorated theater as the organ player entertained, It was all very magical and lovely. I saw Mike Brice whom i met at the Ogden tweet-up but no sign of Bill Murray...sigh. The movie was more than i expected and so hard to explain. We sometimes become so wrapped up in our own lives, our own routines, our own reality that we sometimes forget that there are others out there. This movie reminds us that we are not alone, that we are lucky to be alive and that life is precious. At one point the theatre is full of hysterical laughter and another moment were holding our loves hand trying to hold back tears. You see other realities and suddenly realize how small you are and how big you have the potential to become. I definitely left the theatre with a renewed appreciation for life and promise to myself to appreciate whats around me. Sunday will be a no plans day. We will eat cookies and watch cartoons and cuddle. This weekend was indeed the best weekend ever...EVER! Best Weekend ever...EVER! at 9:51 AMLast night i Went to the Ogden Tweetup at Rooster. Tweetups are in person meet and greets with your local twitter users. You get to meet the people behind the avatars and network with people you may not have socialized with otherwise. It was pretty fun and there is talk of another one soon. Winterfest is upon us, i saw the magic first hand last night as i biked by, and there are a bunch of really amazing music and film events happening as well. He is in luck when he is asked to foreclose on The Gaiety Theater in Deadrock, Nevada. Once there, he decides to "put on a show" to save the theatre and he falls in love. Theatre and love have their ups and downs but everyone lives happily ever after in the end. This "New Gershwin Musical Comedy" won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical. my first love is cooking. Cooking is my release and i just seem to know instinctual what to do with food. I can taste a dish in a restaurant and know every ingredient and make it exactly as it was served . I love shopping for fresh produce and herbs and meat and imagining all the things i could create with them. Last night i made my first pork tenderloin, I've never been a big fan of pork except bacon of course and so i decided to be a bit adventurous. Pork tenderloin in blackberry sauce and lemon balsamic spinach salad. I made a blackberry sauce using red wine, balsamic vinegar, onions, honey and blackberries of course. While that was simmering into a reduction i rubbed the pork tenderloin down with salt and pepper and browned it on both sides in a skillet. After i put the pork in the oven at 450 degrees i tossed an onion bagel broken into bits with melted butter and i threw that in the oven to make croutons. As the pork and croutons cooked (croutons only take a couple minutes) i strained the sauce with a mesh sieve and places the solids in a bowl, i put the liquid back on the oven to cook some more. When the pork was done cooking i took it out and placed it on a cutting board and let it sit 10 minutes to retain its juices. I then cut it into thick slices and placed it back into its pan with the pork juices. Ii drizzles half of the blackberry sauce liquids onto the pork and let it set a minute while i made the salad. For the salad i tossed fresh spinach with lemon oil and juice, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. I then tossed in walnuts and raisins and added croutons on top. For the presentation i put pork slices on a plate and drizzled them with more blackberry sauce adding a spoonful of the solids on the side. Place a healthy serving of salad on the plate and serve. TA DA! a healthy delicious dinner for 3 with plenty of leftover for under 20 bucks and about 45 minutes cooking time. Oh and desert was a raspberry ale and chocolate. it literally lasted like raspberry cheesecake together. Healthy dinners do not have to be time consuming or expensive. By buying a share in a co-op, using coupons and buying in bulk healthy eating can be cheaper than the alternative. Most nights I don't like to spend a lot of time cooking as i have a hungry girl child and a hungry husband pacing around me asking for samples. I plan ahead before shopping and create quick and delicious meals that take under and hour. Its easy! You can do it too! NOW on with the show- Today is Thursday one more day until Friday, but don't fret this Thursday is going to be plenty of fun to get you through until tomorrow. Today is a fresh new day and the kiddo has miraculously bounced back as kids often do. This week can NOT go by any faster in my opinion. I have been generously given tickets to a couple Sundance films here in Ogden and i am just shaking with antici...pation. Also Winter fest is this weekend WOOHOO! Guest Blogger- Livia Wright Taylor at 9:59 AM I never thought I'd end up in Ogden long-term, but here I am! I found my way here for school (GO WSU!) and married another Ogden transplant who loves it here even more than I do. We bought our Pink House almost three years ago, and we just had our daughter, Aspen, in July. Kev and I love everything from the mountains to the good eats in Ogden. I don't know how long we'll stay, but for now this is definitely where we want to be. Even though the weather is gross and there's slushy snow on the ground, I still think the Ogden River Parkway/MTC Park is my favorite place (besides my warm and cozy Pink House). I was able to take Aspen and my dog, Maddie, on one of the warmer days we've enjoyed this week and I can't explain how good it makes me feel to spend time walking along the river. Proximity to the parkway is one of the reasons I fell in love with the neighborhood we now live in. I knew I'd take Maddie for walks every week if we lived close to a beautiful pathway and I didn't have to drive us anywhere. Once Aspen was born, I committed to meeting a walking group of other new moms and it probably saved my sanity in the first few months of new parenthood. I lived for those two mornings of walking and talking; and I even got brave and took Maddie sometimes too. The parkway isn't just for walking; there's fishing and picnic areas and lots of pavilions (Kev's mom got married there last summer!) for events. Above Harrison there's access to the Dinosaur Park and a playground (can't wait to take Aspen there when she's older!). Below Monroe the parkway meanders by the skate park, the Lorin Farr pool (which was used in the film The Sandlot), more playgrounds and the Rodeo grounds. Can you believe Kev lived here over 10 years before attending his first rodeo with me a couple of years ago? You have to see at least one during the Days of 47 or you're missing out. I'm so glad Mikki let me share my loooove for Ogden with her readers. I hope you're checking out all the amazing things she's highlighted for you! There really is so much to do in Ogden, and I'm glad it's turning over a new leaf with all the progress downtown (hello shopping on 25th Street!).
