I am saving up to go to the Weber tech culinary school just so i can learn how to make more food to eat. I am a foodie hence my love of yelp and i don't think my family has any complaints. I try and make sure i make a good home cooked meal several days out of the week and i love to experiment. i have a complete inability to follow recipes and i love to substitute and make it my own. Last night i forgot to pull out the chicken breast from the freezer so i had to come up with a plan b for my chicken Parmesan. I had some eggplant that needed to be cooked and i really wanted to make Israeli couscous so i thought id play with an old eggplant parmeseana recipe i knew. Earlier in the week i got a bunch of tomatoes from a great produce sale and made some marinara sauce with yellow peppers and tons of garlic. I grilled the eggplant with onions and added the marinara sauce and put it on top of the Israeli couscous with some fresh Parmesan cheese. It was frigging delicious, i wish i had leftovers but ALAS with a good meal there are often no leftovers. Here are some pics and i would love to hear about and try out your favorite homemade recipes. ![]() ![]() Labels: brewskis, calendar, center, christmas, events, indie ogden, karaoke, nature, ogden utah, recipes, teasers, to do xoxo, explore, create and have fun ‹Older Wednesday, December 15, 2010
![]() I got a late start today and almost forgot to do a Wednesday post and Wednesday is the most exciting day of the week! This morning i woke up late and rushed out of the house to make the snowy trek to grounds for coffee on Harrison for my coffee date with Rachael Blackman Collins . In all the chaos of getting a toddler ready and making sure i had my phone (that i forgot to charge and died 5 minutes later), i accidentally forgot my keys. luckily it is a beautiful day and i didn't mind playing in the snow for 45 minutes while i waited for the hubby to bring me the keys. I am very excited about Rachael Blackman Collins project and i want to tell you all a bit about it. Rachael is starting a non profit called Starr foundation, an organization that takes photos for elderly people in nursing homes and terminal ill children in hospitals. The photos will be low cost or free and it will give the people who need it most the opportunity to feel special, beautiful and loved. An alarming amount of amazing people with a lifetime of stories are forgotten in nursing homes and so many parents of sick children are left with so few photos of their children smiling. Rachael's project is so inspiring and i am excited to be a part of it. There will be a website soon but if you want to be involved either by donating, sponsoring or being on the committee then contact her at photographybyrachael@comcast.net. A few years ago, after i had my daughter, i decided to go all Eco with my cleaning products. I found some great alternative to those harsh and icky chemical cleaners but sometimes they can get pricey. after doing some research i found that the same ingredients in the Eco products are things i already had around. Today the Ogden nature center is having an Eco-friendly cleaning product workshop This will be a fun and productive evening spent making non-toxic cleaning supplies for your home. Learn some simple recipes for healthier cleaning products using items commonly found in everyone's pantry. Create household cleaners that will be both easy on the environment and on your wallet. You'll leave with freshly made window cleaner, furniture polish, all purpose cleaner and a host of recipes to create your own green cleaning.
