Monday: art films, nature and beautiful music at 7:15 PM

What an amazing weekend it was. Saturday i put on my prettiest dress and my giant hat and went out on an adventure in the desert with some good friends. We explored abandoned places, got a flat tire, took silly photos, got a bit dehydrated and sunburned and of course got a little target practice in. It was nice to get away for a minute and forget about everything i am obligated to do. sometimes we need little getaways , even if it is just a few hours.
I am excited to announce that the new website will be launching on the first. We hit a couple bumps at first but no one is stopping us now and we are all so very excited. I think this first week with the new indie Ogden team has been fantastic and i cant wait to see what the future holds. From here we can only go up right?

Saturday in ogden: Rants about How much i love you all and epic weekend adventures! at 10:02 PM

Gah! is it the weekend already? Wow how time flies! Its been one heck of a week full of ups and downs and emotions and laughter and intensity and oh so much water.....ya know because its been so hot. Anyway its finally the weekend and time for me to purge my mind of all the clutter of the week and unwind in the desert with friends and children and pretty dresses and lots of silly photos.
i don't know about y'all but i am a highly emotional person. i put all of my love into Indie Ogden and taking care of my community and helping everyone i can. I am highly invested in the greater good and i want Ogden to succeed, i want my friends to succeed, i want local businesses to succeed and i want nothing, nothing in return. I do this because i love this town, i do this because i finally feel like this is my home and i do this because you all have given me so much love and hope and generosity. I am by no means perfect and everyday i strive to better myself. It's a life long process we all must go through.
I want you to all know that if i have been neglecting you let me know, i am here for you and together we will all succeed. Let us support each other whole heatedly with out any hidden agendas. Lets us support each other for the sake of community and not to "win" at anything. We all have the potential for greatness and there is enough of Ogden to go around for us all to have the chance to express ourselves. I hope that i have inspired some of you and i am constantly inspired by you.
I am so grateful for all of the opportunities i have been given because of indie Ogden, so many things i have always dreamed of doing have come true. if i have not said THANK YOU enough i am sorry so , THANK YOU! Without all of the amazing people that are here in Ogden, none of this would be possible.
There are so many rad musicians, artists, business owners, writers, actors, film makers, visionaries, community advocates ... i would love if you would share your links to your local Ogden projects so we can all network and discover and make new friends.

Commence community building now!

Monday Monday at 12:12 AM

hello dears!
i hope you all enjoyed yesterday's introduction to Jeff Dillon one of the 5 new writers of indie Ogden! Stay tuned because throughout the week all the new writers will be introducing their selves to you...and they are all awesome.
Gah! Can i tell you about my night last night? I am still reeling because last night i saw my idol, my hero , the one person who inspired me the most Plus one amazingly talented, funny and beautiful person. Plus i also got to see an amazing talent like no other. Last night i saw Wanda Jackson and Adele. What the WHAT? you don't know who Wanda Jackson is? For shame! Wanda Jackson is the queen of rock n roll, the first woman to record a rock album and a former beau of Mr. Elvis Presley. Wanda Jackson has been rockin and Rollin since the 50's and she doesn't show any signs of slowing down. hearing her made me grin and dance so much i felt like i was going to cry and pass out at the same time.
Before i had a chance to mellow out , out comes Adele in full glory being all sassy and adorable. She belted out her songs effortlessly , like breathing and floored me with her talent. Being in the presence of such amazing talent was overwhelming and by far one of the best nights i have ever had.
Ahh for love of all things holy please check out these artists! You will not be disappointed and it may just change your life.

Jazz At The Station: Shaky Trade at 9:32 PM

You've probably heard of the band Shaky Trade before you've heard them play. They have quite the following here in Ogden and it's well deserved. My experience was much the same.
I knew Shaky Trade was talented and respected before going to Union Station's monthly 'Jazz At The Station' event. I knew that they are serious musicians and that is no joke.

What I didn't know is that Billy Bommer had such a great voice and that his imminent talent has been honed from the public school system and years of experience. It's pretty impressive to say the least.

Chris Clemons is absolutely mind blowing. My father played trumpet throughout his academic career, so I know full well that Clemons' can pull off some pretty tricky insane stuff while he is holding that horn in his hands. High notes are not a problem for this guy.

Guitar player Brad Wright is the improvisation king of Ogden to be sure. And I was so grateful that this band isn't trying to just imitate some weak impression that people tend to have of jazz music. After taking Jazz History from the meticulous Professor Keven Johansen at the University of Utah, it's been drilled into my head how important fingerboard technique, scoring and improvisation are. And Shaky Trade knows this also.

Bassist Greg Shaw and percussionist Michael Wong keep the melody or 'the head' going in a catchy chord progression allowing band mates to do their thing. This is especially refreshing. And Ryan Conger is like the all seeing eye, who can add a Moog or Clavinet where it's needed without even being noticed. These types of moods and interactions with the audience are crucial for jazz music.

The bottom line is that Shaky Trade knows their trade, pun intended. Their arrangements are pleasant, fun and full of funk. I will be going to just about any show that this band puts on and look forward to see their continued success.

And here are your days events!

Local Spotlight: Art house cinema 502 at 11:18 AM

Art house cinema opened on August 4th showing Rubin and Ed as their first film. Featuring everything from quirky movies like Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same to fascinating documentaries like Queen of the Sun and of course thrillers and horror films like Hobo with a shotgun and the perfect host. The art house cinema fills a void in Ogden that was otherwise only satisfied by driving to salt lake.

Yesterday i went with one of my friends to see 'queen of the sun', a beautiful documentary about colony collapse disorder. The art house is an unassuming building that i would have narrowly missed if it wasn't for the beautiful post for "queen of the sun" hanging in the window. Inside the building is narrow and cozy with exposed brick walls and barely 30 seats. Sitting in this tiny theater makes you feel like you found some sort of secret place, a welcome retreat from the overcrowded over-commercialized big box theaters.

I cant not wait to come to another movie and i hope this place sticks around for a long time. If you want to see a unique film, enjoy an intimate setting, meet amazing people and experience something new than you must visit the Art house cinema 501 at 158 Historic 25th St. Open everyday but Tuesday and only $8 per screening, $12 same day double feature, and $6 reverse matinee there really isn't a reason not to go.

check out their kickstarter fundraiser and help them get better equipment!
